I am looking for an original crown for an old Seamaster 300 Big Triangle. Any idea on a part number or where I can get one? Background on the watch. My dad was a merchant marine in the US and bought this watch in the late 60's. He passed away in 1980 when I was 5 and this watch lived in a box until my mother gave it to me earlier this year. The watch crown was broken when someone tried to steal the watch off my fathers arm sometime in the 70's. Everything else except the crystal, band and crown are original. I would like to return the watch to it's original condition so I would like to find an original crown from this era that fits. Any help and/or advice? The watch is a little dirty and needs to be cleaned. 20161207_092756.jpg 20161207_092747.jpg

    Not likely...

They can get new crowns certainly, but something from the era is very unlikely. The non screw down crown is part 069ST42028, and the screw down version is 069ST42062.

    Cheers, Al

    Hi,
One piece of advice is to follow your instincts and once you find your crown--- find a watchmaker you trust to clean and service the watch. Many here would say NO to polishing, some would want a light polish.
Original bracelets come up for sale here on the forum, make sure you have the correct endlinks.

That's a nice looking 300 and fantastic that it belonged to your father as well. There is a difference between the new crowns and period crowns, I have a photo comparison on my work computer and will try and post it tomorrow.
    Cheers

Here's a photo of a new crown (42062) on the left next to a NOS 60's crown on the right. The old logo is smaller overall and the turn up on the feet is quite as open as on the new crown.
