A local seller asking $240 CAD. The watch has some issues and I'm debating whether or not correcting those issues will be worth the cost. The second hand is missing, the sweep second gear is missing as is the bridge, and one of the case screws is missing. But otherwise it's perfect
Hi, Looks like a R17,8 SC. These movements are not as easy to find as the ones of the 30 series, but there are still donors out there. And you only need one with the SC parts, so a not working one (with a damaged balance, etc.) could do the job. I guess the correct sweep sec hand may be a little harder to find. You will probably have to buy a donor with dial and hands, hoping it will have the correct SC hand. The pics are not the best, but I guess it could be worth it. But it depends on the costs of the work - will you change the parts yourself? I would try to negotiate a bit the price of the watch.
Thanks much for your thoughts on this Francois. I don't think I'd be able to do the work myself, but I have a great watchmaker who could. As you note finding a donor movement and correct second hand would be the issue.
Thanks for the pic bubba48. I was looking online trying to find similar watches and actually found one that had sold here. I imagine finding the exact second hand would not be an easy task.
Amazing I have just bought a 2300 / 1 Calibre R17.8 SC with the same parts missing. You wonder why they were ever removed? So I am on the hunt as well. Added a couple of pictures of my one. The one I bought comes with the original leather band and Omega buckle. Cheers Russell.
That is odd. Seeing this on one movement isn't odd but the same missing parts on another movement does make me wonder why there were removed. Otherwise, great watch Russell --Paul
Hi Paul Yes I'm with you seeing two 17.8 SC movements with the same parts missing. Thanks it is a very nice original watch other than those issues. Cheers Russell.
