So I made the mistake of looking in the local second hand jewellers on my day off and picked up a new vintage small seconds Omega. The serial number 69xxxxx puts in at 1923, the movement looks like a 26,5, the crown is signed. Just wondering if anyone has anymore information.
That's a "Medicus": https://www.omegawatches.com/en-us/watch-omega-medicus-816/ http://forums.watchuseek.com/f29/fs-vintage-rare-omega-medicus-cal-23-4-sc-1032339.html I doubt the dial is original. Most likely repainted. But I'll let the experts in omega ancient artifacts chime in.
No, this is not a Medicus as it has a subsecond wheras the Medicus has a centre second, hence the name Medicus... as meant for doctors. the large sweep second made it easier for them to check the pulse, etc.
Yes, you are right. The movement should be SC. Maybe it was changed, or sold with a non-SC 23,4 too. The omega database specifies a 23,4SC for the 816 model, and names it Medicus.
Thanks, I am tempted to take it into the Omega boutique see if they can shed any light on it. Would be nice to positively identify the movement at least.
