Dear all, thank you for letting me join this community.
I inherited this Omega man's watch (inc. the box) from my grandfather in the mid 1990's.
There is no paperwork and so far I have not been able to find a matching model online, so I am unsure about specifics such as the model name, the period in which it was produced (1980's? earlier?), the types and quality of materials used.
Anything you might be able to teach me, is very much welcomed.
The watch runs fine. In the buckle of the bracelet there seems to be some kind of mark (see picture).
Total weight 58 grams,
diameter of the clock 32 mm,
length of bracelet 17 cm (19 cm with buckle),
width of bracelet 15-19 mm.

More like 60's and possibly a caliber 600 inside. If the watch is gold. Probably marked between the lugs

Bracelet is an add on, but doesn't appear to be an Omega one as I don't see any mark. No clue what the mark inside the buckle is (manufactures mark?).

Take off the bracelet. Add a nice leather strap and you got a nice dress watch (get it cleaned first)

No model name for this and many other Omegas, however there should a model reference number marked inside the back of the watch and probably the gold content as well.

As previously noted, looks 60s. Get a watchmaker to open it for you, take photos of the movement and inside of the back and we can give you a bit more information.

It's too bad you didn't take photos of the inside, we always appreciate those. Anyway, 131.004 is known as the "reference number", which is basically equivalent to the model. It has no specific model name, however. I believe that SC indicates center-seconds, which is the style of the seconds hand on this watch. "62" for 1962 I guess.

You may also have seen markings regarding gold content, e.g. 14k or 18k. There may also be a stamp or hallmark somewhere around the lugs about the gold content. Other than that, there isn't much more to learn about the watch. It's a nice classic men's dress watch from the 1960s, and appears to be in good condition overall. A bit small by today's standards obviously.

 

So it’s a 131.004 with a caliber 600 which checks out.

Most likely made in. 1962.

I’m not sure it’s actually sold gold though. Most likely plated based on images of other examples.

 

I think it could go either way. I found this one in an 18k case. But it should have been obvious from the inside of the case-back.

Thanks lots once more, Don really helped me along, with the tip about the Caliber 600.
I do not rule out having it opened and photographed. Am just a little apprehensive about the cost for that.
It seems there are both 14k and 18k variations.

 

If you did not have it opened, then how did you get the information you posted above ... "Omega - Caliber 600 - 131004 SC_62"? Was that just a guess on your part? I think that @Foo2rama and I both assumed that was actual validated information.

 

That was pretty much my exact thoughts.

 

I'd call it an educated guess, finding many pictures of that type and comparing that to my watch.
My words "it seems to be" made that clear, hopefully.
