Hi - I recently acquired this vintage 30T2 reference 2383-3 and I have not been able to find another example with this dial.

Here's what I know to be true: the case measures 35mm in diameter and lug width is 18mm; movement is 30T2; inner caseback reads 2383-3; and caseback is screw down.

Here's what I believe to be true: the hour and minute hands are replacements; crown is a replacement; dial is original rose gold gilt; and the watch is from the 1940s.

So my big question is: Am I correct so far?

Secondary questions: Are the features of this watch right for the reference number? Is this a rare dial? What hands/crown should this watch have?

Any other useful information would be appreciated!

    Hi
I think you’re correct with your assumptions, but to me the dial also looks redone. Would it be possible to get some better quality pictures? I’m not familiar with this font on a 30T2, but there seem like some inconsistencies in the font of the numbering. I think that the seconds dial has been left original and the rest repainted. I would also consider that the redial was done quite some time ago.

It’ll be interesting to hear what other opinions are out there.
    Regards
    Chris

Thanks Chris! Here's a few more pictures. Sorry it's a hard watch for me to photograph. If we've both never seen this font on a 30T2, there's probably a reason. Still, it seems odd to redial with a different font than what was originally there. I also see the inconsistencies in the 1s and 2s. Also curious to hear more! Thanks again - Ron IMG_6334[1].JPG IMG_6336[1].JPG IMG_6337[1].JPG

    Hi again

Much better pictures. IMO. you just wouldn’t get the inconsistencies in the numbering if it was an original Omega dial. Also the G in the Omega writing appears very thick and slightly clumsy. I go for a redial, but as I stated before it definitely has some age to the redial and I think it has a certain amount of charm to it. Hope some of the other guys of the forum can chip in with some additional info.

    Regards
    Chris

Thanks Vitezi! I agree with your assessment of the hands. If I could just find a rose gold set of leaf or plume hands, I would be all set.

I'm not sure the dial belongs to that reference. I can't say if it's a redial or not but i have never seen another like it. The hands are definitely wrong for the reference as you expected. Patience with vintage watches you will find the parts you need in in time!

IMO this is an original dial with wrong hour and minute hand (should have plume/feather or leaf hands)

Logo, wording and numerals are commensurate with the age of the watch, also the overall condition of the dial.

This is a galvano sandwich dial, not a printed one. Hence the numerals and the Omega logo and wording look blurry and not as crisp as we are used to see on printed dials. It is obvious in the sub-dial...
I don´t think that somebody has only restored the "rest" because this would be a painstaking job on a galvano dial.
It would not make sense to take such efforts on a low value watch like this. (And if it were a partly restoration as somebody assumed it would have been a very old one - so doubly would not make sense considering the value of the watch at that time in the past...)

    Hello
For me: original dial and incorrect hour and minutes hands. Crown also incorrect.
I've one black, not subsecond but I show you. Mine has lance hands and not original crown.

Thanks watch_nut and nice example you have germanicus!

mac_omega - google isn't providing much with regard to galvano dials - could you tell me what that means exactly?

Very pleased for the OP if I’m wrong about the redial. I’ve not heard about “Galvano sandwich dials” before, so this is a whole new area for me to read up on. Many thanks @mac_omega.
