Hello. I'd like to ask the knowledgable community here on Omega forums about any additional information regarding the watch on the photos below. It's a piece originally bought by my grandfather in Rome, Italy in 1951. In late 1952 it was brought back to Czechoslovakia and it was in the family ever since. As far as I know it was never renovated, no parts changed, internally it is in pretty much untouched condition. There are some home made repairs done to the strap but I was told that it is original as well. It even has the original sales brochure and box.
The information I managed to gather by researching the serial numbers, and markings:

The model should be the 1949 Omega Tresor in 18k solid gold case. The diameter of case is 36mm. It has a press-on full metal back. Caliber number 265, ref. OT 2619. Serial number of the movement 11986431 puts it right at the end of the 11xxxxxx production run with 12xxxxxx starting in 1950. Case serial is 10938321, so that should be even a bit earlier, before 1947.

I was looking to find a watch with the same kind design on dial (the waffle pattern, only the 12 position marked by number, design of the secondary dial) and I found just one photo. Is this design somehow significant or rare for the Tresor model? I'd like to know any additional information you could add to this piece of family history.

The stamp of the seller from the 1951 on the brochure is:
    FABBRICHE RIUNITE OROLOGERIE SVIZZERE
    di G. MORANDI
    ROMA - Corso Vittorio Eman. n. 20
Are they by any chance still in business? I'd like to hear from any italian connoisseur of Omega watches if he or she knows any information about this company.

Thanks you for your time to help and reply.

That's how you rock up and ask a question  welcome to the forum.

Lovely watch, and great family treasure.

@cristos71 has cornered the waffle dials over the years so I have tagged him. Also think @gatorcpa showes one similar only the other day. (Edit it was a globemaster  not a Tresor )

Not sure I've managed to corner the market in waffles just yet, although it's not through want of trying, maybe I'm just the biggest show off round here! :D

Nice watch I sold a similar 2619 a year or so ago with a different textured dial. I don't think they are particularly rare with waffle dials but the condition of yours makes it a very attractive piece all the same :)

    Hello and wellcome!

You have a nice heirloom, but it is also a good collectible watch! The dial is original and overall the watch looks in fantastic condition!

Thank you for your welcome to the forums and for the information provided. I plan to get the watch checked and running again. Any advice where to get a good strap for the watch would be appriciated. I want to put the current strap back to the box and use it with a good looking new one so I won't make its condition worse if it is an original one. The new one should be in the same color and material so I'm looking for a dark brown "gator" strap.

That's really beautiful piece on the photo. I was asking about that dial because I was able to google and find only one photo of the dial that looks just like mine. I have to search this forum still, as it looks like the depth of the informations gathered here is profound. Others are very similar but there are always minor differences. Especially more numbers, usually at 3,6,9 positions and different design of the small secondary dial. Even on Omega website there's no picture of 1949 Omega Tresor in their vintage section.

Thanks for the welcome. Yes the watch is in very good condition. But it was not used for the last 30 years, before that only occasionally. So at first it'll get some much needed care in hands of an Omega specialist.

I hope someone corrects me if I am wrong, but I am under the impression that in this era, there were a huge amount of dial variations and often an exact match can be tricky to find online. This does not mean that the dial was changed or otherwise altered, if that is what you are driving at with your question.

BTW, amazing watch, with regards to strap, I have had good experiences with various strap makers and it very much depends on your budget on which you go for.

With regard to servicing, I have had good experiences with Christian, at 'watchguy.com', and although I have never used them personally Swiss Time Services will be often recommended around here, and having seen pictures of their work, I can see why.

    No need to correct ;)

Models with different dials, same dials with different markers and hands and even same dials and markers with different hands have been known.

In the 50s you could custom order and pick from dials, hands and bracelets. ( Lay-buy was big in those days and the watch was ready by the time it was payed off and picked up. )
This has been seen on receipts over the years.
