hi I’m looking for some help locating a new crown for an Omega Sea Master 1958 18k, the original crown from the watch is pictured below, my watchmaker has a lot of Omega stuff and has provided a crown shaped like a nut but I would rather have the original shape, Cousins in the U.K. have them online but it does not say they are genuine, can any one help?
CousinsUK was an authorized dealer for Omega parts until Swatch stopped selling to them and all other parts distributors. If they have the crowns in stock, they are genuine. However, they are likely modern production and may look slightly different than the originals. Hope this helps, gatorcpa
If @trash_gordon can't help you out, they do pop up on ebay regularly. Just be aware that you're looking for one where the omega symbol has flat feet, not turned up at each end. Check the thread size with your watch maker before buying, then it's a question of settling back in a comfy chair and searching.
Modern are gold plated, so will stick out a bit from the case (if G/F or genuine gold). Think you can order 14 and 18kt coating, but still not the same as gold capped/filled Finding a NOS gold filled. Not that easy. Out of 400 NOS vintage crown lots I bought (in original Omega boxes). I found 2 (yellow and pink) Someone might have a slightly used one which is your best bet, but anyone selling a NOS on Ebay are probably selling a plated model, so don't waste your money DON
Gold plating is a simple process and can be done in the kitchen with a couple of C cell batteries. Getting to the point of gold filled will take a while but it's just time. The toughest part of the job is getting the part prepared for plating. A little research and I bet you will enjoy yourself.
