Why not get a preowned watch but of better brand/quality/future resale value? My first was a 1984 datejust which I got in 2011 and was happy for 5 years with it

That question is way to open ended, you have to get what you like. For example a lot of people here like speedmasters and gravitate towards them and thus will suggest those type watches. I like RR and plain no date/day watches, so that is where I would send you.

My opinion, you like the Hamilton, so if its not to much $$ for you get it and be happy.

One of my favorite watches is a brand that gets kinda looked down upon but I don't care I like it so I wear it.

BTW I think that watch you posted looks sharp. :)

I was asked that very same question, recently. I sent the URL for the OMB to the guy who asked, and told him to spend some time reviewing the watches that other people have, want, or hate. Ask questions. It may take a while to channel your thoughts to one brand or style of watch. But when you see one that you feel checks all the boxes, it will be yours. It's all in knowing what boxes to check. Nobody can tell you what sort of watch it will be that will make you happy.

My first Swiss watch not as expensive was a nice Tissot. Quartz. I got it in 2008. Wore it religiously for years. My Vostok also is a 17 jewel manual watch that is great quality but not expensive at all.

I would be proud to own the Hamilton, a great history to the name. If you like it, get it.

For example, one of my favorites in rotation is a vintage omega from 1930-40. Works perfectly and looks great and I get compliments all the time, and I got it at auction and had it serviced ( and all in cost was about 500)

A feeble mind wants to know; what is one of your favorite watches that is kinda looked down upon, but you don't care?

    Bob

My weekend beater bbq watch is a 20 year old Swiss Army quartz.

Figure I'll pipe up for the Longines side of the forum, although admittedly some of these are outside the $1000 budget:

Keep your eye on the FS forums. There are great watches posted there everyday it seems. If you want vintage you are more likely to find that in the private watch sales forum

Click on the Omega logo at the top of this page, then on "Forums", then scroll down to "Watch Sales" and "Private Watch Sales".

The Hamilton looks pretty, the NATO suits it well. Is there a steel bracelet option with that, just in case you need to tone it down a bit?

Hamilton are good at that price point.

1k also buys a lot of Seiko goodness for better quality than the Swiss at that price.

I've looked at Shinolas a couple of times. I've got a smaller wrist and they'd wear big on me. If they made a 36 or 38 I'd be all over one.

^Glad to see vintage Longines, always my favourite

To OP: that is a gorgeous Hamilton, for a vintage lover such as myself, I am swayed. Buy what you like, because i would.
