This is a watch my grandfather left me. I had it serviced 2 years ago. The wachtmaker then told me if i wanted a original bracelet i should look for a 1039/516 bracelet. But as these are quite pricey is this really worth it as it wont be the original set? And if someone knows some other options for a nice looking bracelets to go with this watch?

Ref. 145022-69st

Forstner and Uncle Seiko make replica Flat Link bracelets which are a cheaper alternative.

Personally though, I think there’s no substitute for the original.

Worth it to me, even if it's not the orignal one. It looks better IMO.
You can look for a 1116 (but it won't be cheap...), a 1171 (but yours may be a bit too early)... or maybe a "nasa" vintage JB champion?

Uncle Seiko for the win. Around $100 and a great bracelet both functionally and visually.
I have 1039's for my watches as well but I dont trust them for normal wearing so I go the US route.

The Omega 1175 bracelet with 640 end links is a good alternative. Like the 1039, it's a flat link, but the build quality is much more robust IMO and it can be found for far less $ than the 1039. Here's mine on my 1969 Straight Writing.

Although the 1171 and 1175 are great bracelets and good options, they’re not what would have been originally fitted to a 29m serial -69.

If the OP wants original, it’s a 1039.

I'm not sure where the "break" is with 1969 serial numbers, but this bracelet reference guide from Millenary Watches indicates that both the 1171 and the 1175 would be correct for a 1969 145.022: Omega Bracelet Reference Numbers Ultimate Guide - Millenary Watches

IMO the first 1175’s came with the straight writing case back -69’s, certainly not a DoN, 29m -69.

1171’s first appeared on the -71 imo.
Perhaps some appeared on very late -69’s but I’ve never seen one on a watch that appeared original.

Neither 1175 nor 1171 are correct for a 29m serial -69 imo.

Your watchmaker gave you good information, OP. Only you can decide if it's worth the price. Some people want the period-correct bracelet, others are happy with modern bracelets or reproductions.

Depends on your definition of -69, I have seen multiple -69 Straight writing with original 1171 bracelets and multiple reference to 1171/633 as the associated bracelet in their corresponding Extract from the Archive (earliest seen July 71). I also believe the first generation of 1171 with the Omega Logo in Relief was around before the 69-SW. I just cant believe the 1171 began on the -71 when references to the bracelet exist in extracts for -69 whether the 1171 goes back as far as a 29m serial I would leave it to others. I just have spent a lot of time researching straight writings when I was looking for one.

Concur. I am also certain that the 1175 was originally supplied with some of the 1969 Straight Writing 145.022’s.

As you probably know, the SW -69 variant is an anomaly in that they were produced significantly later than the pre-moon -69 watches, concurrent with -71 watches. Like @Davidt, I would be surprised if an 1171 was original to a 29M Speedmaster. And if I cared about having a period-correct bracelet for the OP watch, I would choose a 1039. If I didn't care so much about period-correctness, I would also consider an 1175.
