Modern is easy - I only bought one, just like I do every 5 years whether I need a new watch or not. Vintage is a head to head battle, and it's about as evenly matched as you can get. In the red corner, fighting in the brown strap, is the 1961 Flagship weighing in at caliber 341: In the blue corner, fighting in the black strap, is the 1948 Centenary weighing in at caliber 30.10 JUB: I might have to give the nod to the Longines based on an ever so slight edge in the condition scoring, and of course and original strap, buckle, and box. There were a couple very nice middleweight contenders too:
Mike, it's one of yours, another 30.10. Not particularly rare, not on anyone's list, just a watch that reminds me of myself. Has some age, has some scars, but proud to have survived and still working steadfastly day after day. Many stories to tell, many stories to keep to myself. 2013, a very, very good year! Dennis, love the Centenary !
Sorry Dennis you broke the rules already. Your favorite watch purchase, not watches. Sorry you gotta pick man, but them's the rules. Mike, you can't start a thread like this without posting your own favorite. Just not cricket. You guys are out of control
Flipped a bunch as usual, but my favorite of this year would have to this one followed by the SMPP. I also liked this Wide Boy Datejust 1603 with sigma dial:
Well I can see this thread is going to be a free for all if the moderators are not even going to follow the rules.
I have two contenders, both very different watches. So it's tough for me to say which is my favorite for the year. #1 - Gruen Airflight: It now has the correct crown installed. Other than slight flaking on the plating underneath the back cover and a couple of small dents on the bracelet from normal use, it's pretty much perfect. Just enough use to know that it has been lovingly used. #2 Harwood Automatic This one had to take a second trip to a specialist watchmaker in PA, but the end result is well worth it. Keeps good time and contrary to other reviews, it has about a 30 hour power reserve. It is a very functional (if a bit small) watch. I'll let you guys decide which is the best acquisiton for the year. gatorcpa PS - I have an incoming twofer this week which could challenge these. Both are Non-Omegas, but I'll give you two hints: 1. Some Omegas have very similar movements, and 2. They both have something in common with vintage Mazdas Dennis is ineligible to guess.
Agreed - picures please! Okay - Longines Flagship it is then! Yes, it's part of our charm. A no brainer, eh? And just in time to make the academy's awards!
Might change though, I just put a deposit on something yesterday and there are still 9 days left in the year!
Easy one for me to answer! Airflight, hands down - and that's coming from a guy who appreciates the history and movement inside the Harwood. That Gruen is über-cool. Dt!
Hard choice, either the nice little "Tuxedo Omega" I picked up from Rhetoric, or the Wittnauer TRC. Winner is:
I can't decide either, but... I'll only post this beauty NOS 1970 Jaeger LeCoulte Deep Sea Master Mariner Full set
