That nuts, I sold a complete set identical to this one prior to Christmas and got £550 for it and nearly fell over. I have a few of these complete box sets with hand tags and a couple of early 60's Brochures, if anyone is that desperate drop me a line, I have complete as new inner and outer box, tags and original GTE booklet (with back page missing)

I hope they are right about the box being the correct size for the speedmaster since many of these boxes of that size are too small and won't close properly with a speedmaster inside. And am curious to see what's on the other side of that included hangtag - if it's blank then the whole package may have just been assembled; it it's not blank and is for another watch - like a deville then the box may very well be too small for the speedmaster. And even if it is the correct box, why the high price?

It is a put together set IMHO, I think the market for complete sets has just gone nuts, honestly when I sold the same set (missing a couple of bits) prior to christmas for £550 I thought the buyer had lost the plot, to the extent I sent him two extra NOS GTE booklets and to my surprise four days later got glowing feedback!

There's still plenty of fun to be had in mid Sixties to mid Seventies Omega catalogue/brochure collecting.
Earlier stuff, and anything Sixties that specifically references Speedmaster codes or SM300 in the listing title, tends to go a lot higher.
Always exciting to find something that isn't already on Steve Waddington's site.

I do have one 1957 catalogue but, unfortunately for me, there is no 2915 inside.

No dimensions mentioned for the ebay's box, but my Mark IV box looks pretty much exactly like that and I believe would have no problem holding any other Speedmasters.

I still think this is a nuts price for one of these box sets, I might add that the box is actually a post 1970 box, I know because I am an utter geek who needs to get a life. The pre 70 boxes inset came right up to the edges of the box sides with no expose of white, the post 70's boxes where this type.

It is also an interesting illustration of supply and demand. I say that partly because, of course, vintage Speedmasters (and related ephemera) are in great demand, and limited supply. But the nosebleed price also contrasts very sharply with a recent purchase that I made. I posted it on the Longines forum (link below), so most of you probably missed it, but it is a box and papers from a Longines dating to the mid-1940s.

It is an apples and oranges comparison because the Longines box is not model specific, and also because it is of a very different, old-world quality. Note that the remarkably well preserved wooden box is even joined with dove-tails. Also, and the main reason that I bought the set, it includes an extraordinarily rare cardboard outer box in astonishingly good condition. Good luck finding a similar outer box for a 60-70 year old watch in any condition!

The point of all of this is that I paid only a small fraction of the cost of the (admittedly very nice) Speedmaster set, yet the wide disparity in values neither reflects relative quality nor rarity, but primarily demand.

a life? watches are life...the rest is just waiting...lol
(ok, who can tell me where I got the mangled quote from?)
I don't think it's even a Speedmaster box. I feel the same about the red velvet
going all the way up the edge.
That's mine has and what I have seen on others I think were original sets.
1968 they used the silver and Black box.
(mmon crater box thrown in here somewhere)
1969 they switched to the faux wood with red velvet.
Then went brown with aqua velvet
they switched over to that brown faux wood box.
