eBay redirected your link, with the words "that item has ended; here's a similar item you might like." (eBay started doing this a few weeks ago and it's incredibly annoying.) To see the original item, go to Advanced Search, check "completed items," and search for the item number 283082482158 as contained in your link.

I'm surprised, but it looks like 3 people were willing to bid in that ballpark. I'm probably the one who's out of touch

not sure if it's because i don't wear my glasses or is the writing on the dial a bit out of focus ? the overall conditions seems ok for a wacht overrun by a tank

The pics are terrible. Hard to be certain of anything, so why bid high?

I tried to ask the seller for more pictures and was told that those are the best quality pictures available. Simply unbelievable someone would pay over $2300 for some "unknown" omega like "object"!

Some other “clearer” photos. Looks like a 1950s crosshair waffle dial Seamaster. Probably gold capped.

It’s is a gold capped, or plated waffle dial.

Capped, judging from the back of the lugs. And I am sure this cleans up nicely and will be an extremely nice watch. I have no idea what those go for in good condition, so can't say anything about the price point.

I agree, there is a lot potential in that watch. Persinally I like finding them in this condition. You just have to make sure that there are no serious damages on the dial and gold fill, which can be tricky when pictures are fuzzy.

For the final bid, I would say it is fair, considering it's a rare Chronometer Seamaster with black waffle dial.

I would say it was about $1k over the top and may get relisted. If you think $2300 is a fair price for that then I have some magic beans you may wish to purchase.

Yes, arguably too high a price. But then black dials, and for some collectors 'waffle', occasionally make people do strange things.

Are they common? Definitely not. But for most collectors, gold-capped is a distant third to full steel or gold.

The counterpoint is that mid-century chronometres are, as a group, arguably undervalued, given their importance at the time. But for $1000 more, I'd sure as hell prefer this rare bird:

    Reference number ? (27xx)?
Seems difficult to pinpoint a recent sale or one for sale.

It was kind of a sleeper for a bit.

I was considering an $1100 bid but decided I really don't need another watch right now and when I saw the final snipes I'm sort of glad I didn't bother.
