Yes I saw that too - $40K seems a bit optimistic though...

Give it a few weeks and we'll see a lot of vintage Speedmaster chronographs coming up for sale ... surfing & soaring on the Apollo 11 hype...

Questions that immediately come to my mind that I don’t have an answer readily available (MWO is far away)...

Is the box correct for such a late reference?
When did Omega start using the red dot on the case back? That thick?

That late for that box? watch is a 72-74 or so I am pretty sure it is fine.

The red dot is interesting though, never seen that on anything that old, and NOS pieces have popped up.

Yeah I had assumed the Box was strictly 70/71-ish. Thanks!

Yes, the dot does make me a little suspicious to be honest. Al has suggested before that unscrupulous types use a dab of red paint or wax to suggest an unopened case. It could be a put together set with a fluff here and there to try to justify the astronomical price tag. Or it could be 100% original. Can't see much of a step on that dial but it could just be the angle and glare of those shots.

Hang tag 145.0022. Paperwork 145.022. Assembled lot in my mind.

I stop at the price and don’t even make it to the red dot or box questions.

I've seen a supposedly NOS flightmaster with the red dot, believe the consensus at that time was that it was ok.

Which of the parts have been manufactured then? As there is a serial number on both, it would be pretty daft for the person who made the set write to different references and the same serial.

You are selling a watch for 40k !

You have evidently researched Speedmaster values

You take a very clear image of the ‘red dot’

You do not capture a clear image of the Dial ?

    Seriously ???

Would be nice to see the printed date on the warranty booklet as well... Haven't some recently showed up recently that were printed a year or two after the watches they were claimed to be for were sold?

And x100 on the red dot... That was an immediate flag.

...But both pieces have the same serial number, ergo if they were from different sources, one of them would have had to be blank and then filled out (manufactured) later to make up the set. As the serial number is the same (I know the last digit has been blanked, but think that the benefit of doubt goes here ;) ), they can not have come from different sources in this state.

Which of the ones do you think has been recently filled out?

The big question for me is does it have a step dial. If not then to my mind it is franken, created to deceive. The lack of clear dial photos are an alarm bell and red flag for me. Well the price tag having an extra zero over my desired price are the real red flag for me but that is beside the point.

Don't worry, it's perfect, I don't think finding a step dial is an issue if you are putting together a $27k package and you have already sourced the papers, hang tags, NOS case and crater box.

I don't think for a second that this package is not legit. Just over priced.

I guess I misunderstood. The paperwork inked in is what concerns me. How many sales associates, as opposed to enthusiasts (or seller in this case), would know the earlier Speedmaster case number is 145.022? Why not just copy 145.0022 from the hang tag since they have to get the serial number from there anyways? Just seems odd to me.
