Hello all, This watch intrigued me as I have never seen a mystery dial with an automatic movement, nor have I seen a Longines auto without a seconds hand and no date aside from the 993. This watch has to be from an earlier era than when the 993 was produced. The "admiral wrench" and "1200" would seem to place this in the late 50's/early 60's. I have two mystery dials from this era, but both are manual wind. I can't find info about an auto mystery dial in spite of my best efforts, so I may have to buy it just to satisfy my curiosity. Would likely be a caliber 19 or 290 if truly an auto, but once again I can't find any reference to non-seconds version of either of these calibers, although I guess it wouldn't be too hard to simply leave the second hand off the finished product/dial. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Stunning-Vi...7465&clkid=6669086791462875842&_qi=RTM2247627Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
Although other companies had mystery dials, I've always thought Longines had the most elegant designs. Here's another no-date mystery automatic, circa 1958: (thanks)
Thanks for the information. Love those old Longines ads. Did a little more research and apparently the mystery dial with auto movement wasn't too uncommon after all. Have seen with a caliber 19 and 350, depending on when exactly the watch was made.
