Secretly i have always had a little soft spot for Longines... I have seen this for sale near me in Miami and thought it does not look bad http://www.longines.com/watches/heritage-collection/L3.674.4.50.0 Thoughts people?
Very long lug to lug distance (~52mm) makes it hard to wear for smaller wrists. I prefer actual super compressor cases, though most are ~36mm. Edit - I think the vintage Wittnauer looks pretty similar to the LLD.
I loved it on pictures, but it didn't feel right on my wrist due to long L2L. I got Mido two crowns diver instead and it was cool but dial felt too plasticky and bracelet clasp felt cheap imho. I flipped it and got Ball Engineer Master Diver II and it was great but eventually flipped it too to fund part of the purchase for Speedy Pro.
love mine to be honest, the L2L is long. Here is a pic on my 7 1/4 inch wrist. Strap is a Bradystrap Sailcloth.
I love the look of this watch and have visited a dealer to try it on. It's big, but didn't feel too big in my opinion and I don't have big wrists. I plan on picking one of these up in the not too distant future, but will look for the discontinued no date version. Who knows how long that will take of course.
Despite the long L2L for my small wrist, it's still one of my favourite. And the heritage version stays true to the original.
This is the only new Longines I own. I have both the Date and No Date versions, and like both very much. I get compliments every time I wear one, and it's a nicely finished watch for the price. The strap is fine, and the watch looks great on many other styles of tropic and Nato straps. It does wear large for a 42mm. See if you can try one on at an AD.
I've had two, in my opinion a very underrated watch. They are such a bargain any way you look at it. Both of mine kept time to within +2 secs per day.
I really enjoyed this watch due to its great design, but it has 2 major drawback in my opinion: 1. Huge lug to lug distance at 52mm 2. The movement, although a great power horse, it does not have the wow factor to match the overall design and history of the LLD
I just don't know what gets into me some times....... Beer most likely, I think the above was the result of a good dose of Innes & Gunn.
What bothers me most about this watch is that there is no reason that the lugs have to be extended that far. Done because of aesthetics? I think not because it introduces a nasty gap between case and strap. Longines would have winner if the lugs were more traditionally sized. Just IMO.
I used it as a daily wear for almost 6 months. It was great on mesh and fit comfortably on my 7.25 wrist. I prefer Omega so I sold it last month.
Found it to be very comfortable to wear, no issues at all on my 7.25 inch wrist. If anything it felt a little small compared to a Speedmaster.
