Hi guys and gals, Have a look at this 60s cal 291 Conquest with internal cyclops: I was wondering about its originality. Arguments pro original dial: - Font seems OK - T Swiss Made T correctly placed & font OK - Dial overall state / patina seems OK Arguments contra original dial: - Compared to the ulackfocus thread on automatics, the font is actually not quite OK (the thicker swirl of the C in Conquest, etc). But could this be a variation on a theme? "automatic" looks good though. (pic blown up so looks a little wonky) - No stars (again, could be a 60s variant)? Unfortunately I don't have better photos as the watch is not in my possession. The movement is claimed to be a 291: Thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
I'm going to attempt and answer my own question and say re-dial: the dial lume could have been added later (too white for its age?). Note also that one of the lume dots seems partially to cover the last S of SWISS. other ideas?
The pictures might be making the ink look thicker, and it's fairly easy for a watchmaker to redo the lume without refinishing the dial. If that watch is a redial it's fantastic. I say original because these 60's dials held up well if the watch wasn't abused.
Is it me or is the date wheel's number a bit too sloppy. Not trying to be a perfectionist, but the thickness of the digits definitely vary and the digit 1 does not seem strait to me.
