Last one for a while I think.... And I think with that, I might take a break for a while. Best regards and happy new year, S
Congratulations Sylvie, that is a great piece! An FB case with a Longines movement (10.68Z?) and a handsome dial. And the Bonklip looks fantastic. May I ask the diameter of the watch?
Thanks Simon, this one kind of checked all the boxes for me -- and it was in the European Union, which is a big deal because import taxes are huge where I am. It is a 10.68Z indeed, in a 31mm case.
It wears very well at 31mm and I like the gilding combined with the blued screws. The finish is almost (dare I say) English in style.
Thanks for the kind words. What do you mean by "English style"? are you referring to Smiths movements? Or something more general, eg something quite polished?
what a fantastic watch! Liking smaller watches I find stuff like this particularly attractive. Do you know more about the West End name? where is it from etc.....
Another gem, love the dial... you are on a Longines roll. And the vintage bonklip with it.. a great finishing touch.
I did have Roger Smith in mind. He covers the topic in the 4th paragraph: http://www.rwsmithwatches.com/series/movement/
Syrte If you go on Longines website and dig around they offer a free service where they'll tell you when and to whom a watch was dispatched, seems they've kept ALL the records and are quite willing to let you know when things were dispatched. Like Omega they'll do a fancy certificate for the watch for a fee, but they'll also send you a letter with the date and dealer name for free if you send them a few photos and movement numbers. I mean to do it for my two old Longines watches. Methinks Omega could learn from Longines in this area.
A beauty, @Syrte ! I hope you will post any new info you get on this one. I recently snagged a West End Watch Co. on eBay for $50 knowing their history with Longines. It also came with an old bonklip. There was no movement pic or information, so when I finally opened it, I felt like a kid again at Christmas! Unfortunately, all that was inside mine was what I think is a dirty ol' A. Schild . It was then I felt a little more like Charlie Brown instead ! Still, it's not a bad looking watch. Mine says 'hi' :
Thanks gents... I'm definitely going to write to Longines. Dougiedude, don't be too sad, your bracelet is probably worth 50$ alone - and those are nice cathedral hands !
Yikes , I'm not even sure I kept it .... Probably the other big reason I got this one... Love those, too, thanks, Sylvie!
Er.... well well well Well tomorrow is another day, an apple a day keeps the doctor away, and there will be many many more watches to be had...
I knew I'd never wear the bracelet (generally don't like them), and I'm trying to turn over a new leaf, and not keep 'unused' items around the house anymore... AND, one person's trash......
A very healthy, "feng shui" resolution ! I've pledged the same Thank you "Modest proposal", it's nice to get something right from time to time and make up for the mistakes.
