    Hi to all,

Being recently bitten by the vintage snake, i would like to know your toughts about this Longines Admiral. I love the dial, wich is in very good condition, but wasn't able to see the movement and the case back is só me scrathes. Could it be a nice collectible?

Just one more question? Have the Ultra Chron or the Conquest more value? Thanks in advance. [IMG][IMG]

I'm going to tackle the second part of your question first. The Conquest (with in-house calibers) is more desirable than the Ultra-Chron. For whatever reason, Ultra-Chrons seem to be overlooked in the current market. (My guess would be because they are relatively common and, as a high beat movement, can be a little finicky if they weren't serviced regularly.)

As to the Admiral above, it's an early 70's version, probably with a 505 movement (which is based on a Record Watch Co caliber). The 505 is a 19,800 bph caliber and is not as desirable as Longines earlier in-house movements. Good looking example for sure, but not highly desired by collectors.

Thanks a lot for your answer. I've noticed that the value of an Admiral is quite different for the one found on a Conquest or Flagship, and i didn't quite get to know why. Your explanation about the movement make it much more clear to me!

I was googling a little and i have a doubt: can this watch have 6651 movement?

The Admirals I've seen housing the 6651 have not been in a single piece (monocoque) front loading case like the one in your photos. I'd assume it's a 505 unless you can get movement photos to prove otherwise.

Agree. Every admiral with the 5 stars I've seen had a Record-based movement.

6651 was a variation of the 43* movements with reduced frequency at 28,800 to get away from some of the maintenance issues with the 36K 43*'s. Still were usually called ultrachron on the dial though

According to Longines it actually houses the 6651.

Nice. I think it's fairly unusual to see one of these with the 6651 movement (like @argonbeam and I said, they are usually 505s). Did you end up picking it up and at what price?

Also, how long did it take Longines to get back to you on the information? Seems it's been taking them a bit more than a week with my recent requests.

No, i didn´t get it (yet). The price asked is 350€, with the watch being in good condition but without any idea about last service.

Regarding Longines information, it took 6 working days to arrive.

I would buy it. Nice vintage piece for everyday wearing.
Do have a soft spot for c-cases

    Sounds reasonable with the 6651.
I totally agree. The c-cases are very comfortable and the 6651 is a nice movement and more desirable than the 505 for sure.

Schoffenhausen, how long did it take for Longines to respond to your request. I sent the same type of information request to Movado 18 months ago and I am still waiting for their response.

Wow... That's fast. And I am sure they did not charge you for the service. Good on Longines.

Most of the other Swiss brands don't provide this service for free.

I had a 1970 Admiral HF as well. With the great cal. 431 high grade (36,000 bph) movement. L1.jpg
