Longines 5966 arrived from Peru (ugly thing)

Well, not the most attractive 5966 Longines 30CH out there. But it is definitely untouched.
Even the crystal has changed to an strong amber color. This watch looks to have been
worn regularly and is keeping good time. I need to tighten up the movement screws a little.
What do you think? If there is a nice replacement dial out there somewhere, this will be a
    bargain.

At first glance it looks OK but I have to ask whether you know that South-America is full of fakes, redials and frankens ? Be careful. Have you checked the movement before/after purchasing as well ?

You actually got a real watch from a seller in Peru? Congrats!

Pretty cool even with the patina. That case (lugs) and crown are stunning. Congrats!

Were you able to check out the movement yet on this one?

Well, I didn't check if the movement matches the case yet. It is the right kind of 30CH with the Genève Strips

Case is unpolished and the crown is the correct kind for the steel 5966. My understanding is that this crown is pretty hard to source.

Have to find some reason to like the patina!

Thank you for the heads up. Did not know that there was so much garbage from there. I know I have seen vintage Rolex chronographs from the 1940s era that I could figure out if the existed or not. Well, now I know they were likely fakes!

South America is replete with Longines and Omega watches that are in locally made cases. We need to see the inside of the caseback to be sure.

    Geneva waves. ;)

This case certainly can fool me. I don't have a loop with me. With the naked eye, the metal and markings look genuine. This case dates to 1952 and movement is 1952-1953.[IMG]

What would a new crystal do for the dial's appearance? The dial isn't an offense to the eye as is.

And original 1952 Crystal, undamaged! To me, a little poly watch is all I want to do to this original condition Crystal. The material is different. Not hard and brittle

Don't do a dammed thing except service the movement. Nice snag. Patina heaven.
