Went into an old jewelry store in a little town on the shore of Lake Michigan on Monday. I had bought a pocket watch there about 10 years ago and this was the first time I had been back to the little town. I went in and the guy who I bought the PW from was there in his motorcycle jacket. He remembered me and took me over to the the vintage display. Long story made short, this Longines was not on display but hidden in the safe. After talking for a bit he brought it out. The owner of the store thinks he father originally sold it in the late '40s or early '50s. Anyway, now I have bought two watches from this store. I have always wanted one of these but usually the dials are really schmutzy or redone. This one isn't perfect but it is pretty nice...and so is the movement...and the case isn't bad either. It runs well and it isn't NOS so I can actually wear it. The strap is not original but it is a nice old Kreisler Whale Hide. JohnCote
Thanks...I need to make that trek more often. On the way from Indianapolis to way up in Michigan I bought about 8 watches, two of which, including this one, are real gems. The other is a pocket watch. JohnCote
I lost an auction regarding a 30 CH, 50ies s/s watch, round pushers, with the same dial as yours, some years ago to @Skrotis on the forum. It's a loss that still hunts me.... Congrats on your pickup
Thanks for the info. I am not much of a Longines maven. When did they go to round pushers? I would have thought in the '50s?
Great pick up! I think yours is more like 1960-62 kind of period, I contacted Longines regarding mine and IIRC it was from '61
Not quite a full set. There is not a registration certificate...the little pocket in the front of the booklet is empty. JohnCote
