Found this beauty in a pawn shop today and I am on the fence. Longines “Pulsations” Admiral. Circa 1960s in 14k solid gold with case, dail, and hands in great condition. Corners are sharp so no over polishing on this example. Original crown too. Measured in 6 positions with Watch Accuracy app and the best was 30 seconds fast (other positions were worse) so it will need a service. $650 US.dollars. is it a good buy or should I pass? Maybe offer a lower.amount?

Good buy at $650 even if it needs a service? I think I'm going to shit for $400 but maybe go up from there.

I think so, yes.

Pretty much every vintage watch that sells for a good price will need a service, IMO. If you do not intend to wear the watch often, or are concerned with profit upon resale, then I would skip a service.

It would only get occasional wear. They wouldn't come down in the price so I'll probably give it a few weeks and try again.

I pulled the trigger today, final price $600 including tax. It's running better than I thought.

That is a very cool dial. Is it really a 14k case, or maybe gold-filled? I would have grabbed that watch in a nanosecond either way. Is there a way to restart the sweep hand at 12? Or do you just wait until the sweep hand passes 12 or 6 before starting the count?

I think you have to wait. See instructions below.

According to my research they made it in a gold plated case and in a solid 14k gold case. This one is solid gold according to the inscription the case edge. No way to reset the second hand you just have to wait for it.

Amazing that a pawn shop would sell a 14k case for $600. They may not be the sharpest tools in the shed, but 14k is something like $35/gm these days. Sometimes you just get a good deal. 👍

Great pickup and a really cool watch. The Latin on the dial is such an old-school touch. Longines was not screwing around when they designed this watch.

It's a charming watch. I don't know much about the brand, other than the general positive reputation so the votes of confidence mean a lot.
