Long time lurker in need of help

Having been an avid reader of this forum for a long time and having learnt a lot in the process I have finally joined and hope someone will be able to help.

I have a Speedmaster 2998-6 on an early 7912 bracelet with No 6 end links that is dated 2/61 but that carries no model number. I would like to adjust the bracelet by removing some links however, as this does not have the later centre pieces I see no way of adjusting this without prising open the flanges of the links and then pressing them shut. Is there another way of doing this?

Also despite having removed countless bracelets and straps from other watches I cannot get my spring bar removal tool to shift the pins. What is the secret to doing this with these end links?

Any help gratefully received

If you've been here for a while, you know that we cannot function, much less answer questions, without photos.

I think they’re okay but no photo of the watch? Tease!

Add 2998 to your thread topic and you will get a lot more views. 😀

As to the question, i would just have my watchmaker do it. While it's not overly complex, I'd make a mess of it myself.

Edit: ....ask me how I know. 😬

OOps you are right about the photograph I have become too focused on the bracelet 😀

Looks like the advice so far is accept your limitations, which is undoubtedly sound advice and something I should also accept with my photography. Makes me realise what a good job MWO did with their photographs

It might seem a little odd replying to the thread I started but I have learnt a few things about the bracelet on my watch and thought I could share this.

Firstly it appears that the bracelet is a transitional between the 7077 and 7912, I am sure many of you realised this but it has taken me a while to figure this out.

Secondly, this bracelet is not so easy to adjust and as Oddboy rightly pointed out is way beyond my skill level.

Thridly, I cannot move the spring bars because they appear to be "fat" and have no shoulder.

Finally, even a well known London outlet did not feel qualified to remove the bracelet.

So I either have to put on a lot of weight or go to a real specialist for help.

Now where is that extra slice of pizza? 😀

Regarding the spring bars, I had a 7077 on a watch in the same predicament. I had to gently pry up the last link, remove the bracelet from the watch leaving the spring bars behind, then cut the spring bars.

I wouldn't attempt to again given how valuable these are now, but I got off free on that one.

Again, watchmaker should be able to get it done.
