I wonder if the true amount will ever be known as I suspect a great number will not want to disclose the contents of their boxes.

That is a seriously scary notion since a lot of people store stuff in safe deposit boxes without insurance in order to keep their premiums down. If the customers are insured, great, but if not, there are going to be a lot of uncompensated losses.

Yea... that really is a bit disconcerting, and I too am one of those that tries to mitigate risk by keeping everything in safe deposit.

As horrible as it is it is very rare. Still one of the better options I think.

With all of those zeroes, plenty of motivation there. Seems like the security may have been really lacking. Maybe these guys watched The Bank Job and dreamed of an easy score.

Wasn't there a movie with Jason Statham in it with this exact plot?::popcorn:: Think it was called "The Bank Job" or something like that.

That is what I referred to in the above post. Pretty good film. A former client of mine was one of the stars and may have put up some of the funds to finance the film. Statham is on to much bigger things now.

I don't see how anyone could have gone thru such a small opening. Incentive can't make you that small. This could be the second time this year I was wrong though.

It's possible, I'm pretty sure I could. I've been into one of them vietnam war-era ratholes in Cu Chi, now those were a squeeze...

The cynic in me almost thinks it may have inside help. to maybe know what boxes to target and what they may contain. Very determined regardless.

I used to have boxes in there.

Took everything out after a sneak thief made keys and opened half a dozen boxes under the noses of the staff.

I notice the office was rifled. I would think they would have done their homework and known the names of the biggest diamond dealers, cross referenced the names in the office and found the box numbers.

There would be no point in robbing coloured stone dealers (hard to sell), or estate jewels which are easy to trace.

Much better to rob the dealers of stones under 10 carats, those holding parcels. Just have to look them up in the trade press.

This safe deposit company was a robbery waiting to happen, but I thought it was going to be an armed gang.

Where's the rebar? And, there should be staggered 1" carbide or tungsten steel plates within the concrete.

The hole saw would get torn to shreds.

They should ask me to design their next vault.

Core bit drills get torn to shreds and melt when they bump into carbide or tungsten steel plates. It's even better if they're laid flat and staggered each 100mm or so. You could never drill through a meter or so of this method on 40, 60 or even 200 amps of service.
The core bits would super heat and lock into the substrate.
