Hi all and here is a thread about local traditions. I am visiting Dingle here in South West Ireland for a few days and today is known as the day of the wren ( a small native bird ) . It normally falls on St Stephens day ( Dec 26th) but because this falls on a Sunday this year its posponed until today. boys don straw costumes and traditionally carry a dead wren through the streets singing and dancing and calling to individual houses bringing good luck. Its all good humered fun and storytelling and a few beers thrown in. Look it up and hopefully some other local traditions might pop up. Happy wren day.

Plenty of wassailing in my home county of Worcestershire, at the moment.

It’s a tradition often observed by counties that have a prominence of apple orchards, supplying fruit for the cider making industry.
A kind of pagan thanksgiving for the hallowed Foxwhelp.

Usually lots of merriment, song, a bonfire, and a piss-up 👍
