Hi guys, I was browsing craigslist today and found this ad: I have never bought a watch off of CL, just off of the forum from established members. The price seems great, if I am not incorrect, this is a 2254.50. My Dad has one just like it, and I have the electric blue model, I am a fan of the black a little more... On the forums this seems to go for 1500-2000. Would you guys swoop on this? It would be SO easy for him to lie about the time, it could lose MINUTES and be in dire need of service.. How do I get around this? Is there an elegant solution? He has a receipt for a 2011 service. The price seems right, I need some opinions on what to do. He has agreed to meet at a local AD to verify authenticity (I was not too worried about a fake but you can't be too safe). More pics:
As long as its in person and being independently verified, that's a very good price for a 2254.50 just be careful. Also make sure its not the mid size which is worth far less, its hard to tell sometimes from pics.
At that price I think you would be regretting it for the rest of your life if you pass on it now. If that was on e-bay it would be sold in about 2 seconds.
Go for it, if the seller is willing to meet you at an AD and the AD verifies you can still afford a basic service and come out ahead ! Future bonus points to be had revealing the source, it's Bonfire of the Vanities - ish Everyone loves a good Craigslist story, or is that another forum . . .
My weirdest was doing a watch deal for a Gemini IV Speedmaster Pro in a hospital emergency room foyer while the guy's wife was giving birth, because as serious and traumatic as childbirth was, she didn't trust him not to back out of the sale and try to keep his watch.
mid-size doesn't have any lume at 3 o'clock. even with a full refurb at Omega to cost in that watch is still a bargain.
Good observation - you're absolutely right! I have sent the man an email and he said a lady is looking at it this afternoon.. if she doesn't buy it I am next. What do I do? just wait? offer 950?
Stand your ground and under no circumstances allow someone else's interest compel you to circumvent prudence. Meet at an AD or a bank, at minimum Starbucks and stick to the decaf as the excitement is palpable already
Sounds like you really want this watch. If I were you I would e-mail the seller re- stating your interest saying that you are prepared to pay his asking price, hopefully the lady will try to haggle and get nowhere and pull out. fingers crossed for you.
MEETING HIM AT A STARBUCKS TONIGHT WITH MY FRIEND WHO IS 6'7 AND 280 LBS!!!!!!! IT'S HAAAPPENNINGGGG!!!! seriously I am SO pumped.
The lady decided it 'wasn't for her.' I dodged a bullet there, and this watch has been on CL for FIVE days before I noticed.... UPDATES TO COME
I just looked up the Gemini IV and DANG that is beautiful. Do you still have it? How is it? (I'm allowed to jack my own thread, right??)
ya think we shoild cut you off the caffeine as of this moment !?!?!? Have fun and post pics once consummated
Me too, I actually don't wear my 321s that much anymore because of how much I love this dial and bezel on the Speedy, only the Apollo 11 35th, Meteorite ASTP and 45th Anniversary Ti come close for me.
