There's a spacewalk currently taking place on the ISS . https://www.nasa.gov/nasalive Is that a Speedmaster on the wrist?
Watching it now as well! Really reminds me again the true heritage of the speedy- a modest, reliable TOOL WATCH! And a very good one at that! Unlike the billions of limited editions we've seen!
In the last one you can really see it's a speedy. But what really honestly surprised me is just how legible these things are. Even with the not-the-best video quality and the lighting conditions we can see what time it is and even the chrono counters.
Of course it's an Omega Speedmaster chronograph... since 2013 they're using the extra wide bit as pin onto the velcro over the Orlan glove .
During ISS spacewalks, the Speedmaster chronograph has only be used for spacewalks with Russian Orlan "Sea Eagle" space suits... To be more precisely with Orlan-M, Orlan-MK and nowadays with Orlan-MKS space suits
Here's a photo of a Speedmaster chronograph with the same black strap over the Sokol "Falcon" IVA space suit... worn by European astronaut Alexander Gerst... The white roundel is the Sokol space suit pressure valve... in case You're interested the watch directly on his wrist is a Swedish HALDA aka the digital "space module" chronograph... .
That's interesting, so the 'extra pin' thing is basically something like an end-link piece for velcro?
