I have a terrible weakness. It's called linen dials. There, I've said it. I'd love to see all sorts of textured dials that are out there so if anyone can share theirs I'd be delighted! I'll start with my Tudor Oyster, which is more of a brushed finish but quite close to the feel of a linen dial.
I don’t think of this as a linen dial but we might as well have these two 320 coffin marker dials in one place.
Nice dials and idea for a thread, I'll play along . One of my former beautys, sold here a long time ago, the dial really came to life in the right lightning conditions: The structure of the Constellation dial is by far my favorite: Also nicely done but hard to capture in a picture is the dial of the 6138-8020 by Seiko : Cheers, Max Keep them coming!
This mid-century Gruen was my father's daily driver when I was growing up. It then sat in a drawer with a cracked crystal for almost 40 years. It wasn't until I had it serviced that I realized how beautiful the linen dial is. It ain't a 'fancy watch' but I sure do love it.
Jesus, what a bunch of touchy posters today. The OP starts the thread about his weakness for linen dials and then never posts one. I'm sorry if I misunderstood that the thread was not primarily about linen dials.
Well to be fair, I'm currently am not in possession of a "true" linen dial(unfortunately), though I'm eyeing that one particular JLC..... As to the confusion surrounding dials, I'm not quite in full understanding but: Linen dials- crisscrossing patterns Sunburst- lines emanating from a single point Brushed- vertical or horizontal pattern Hobnail- 3D pattern similar to knurling Have I got my nomenclature on lock? Correct me if not
Can't figure out just how to describe this texture . Not quite a felt and reminds me of a new tennis ball, might have been chosen for this presentation watch because of that similarity. Similar in a way to those reflective strips you put on a mail box but only mildly reflective. The Pacific Coast Athletic Association logo I could do without but its kinda grown on me.
