Hi I wanted to ask you about what are the top few Limited Edition Omega watches that were made in numbered pieces ie xxx/1000? If you have pics of those in your collection it will be helpful Thank you
Speedmaster Snoopy Version both the 2000s version and the latest 2015 version, Gemini 4, Apollo 11 35th, Mitsukoshi, Apollo 11 45th, Alaska Project, Apollo 13 In Seamasters, the 1948 Liquidmetal LE Planet Ocean
The Liquid Metal Limited Edition Planet Ocean, of course!!! The one legendary PO. Ceramic, Liquid Metal, applied numerals and Legend, plus LM legend. Red rather than orange legend accents. Slimmer profile than the 8500, with matching bezel and Dial (the only PO that matches bezel to dial) Got to love it. 1948 made
These are quite interesting: to date, Omega's only offering with a meteorite dial. It's called the Speedmaster Apollo-Soyuz 35th Anniversary LE, produced in 2010 with 1,975 pieces made.
Ah I missed that one, its cousin though, the original Soyuz LE is the ultimate LE Speedmaster. You'd be lucky to find one at all and even then the price is insane, easily the most expensive steel LE many times over.
It will be interesting to see what the one goes for tomorrow in the auction. This is indeed on of the best LE's Speedmasters done by Omega.
What is it about the original Apollo Soyuz that makes it so desirable? Is it mainly the (actually) limited number? The slight case/pusher variations? The occasion it marks?
I have heard that some people really like the ASTP patch on the dial, but it's probably because it's so limited it's nearly mythical.
They made 500 of them, and it is rare to see one. I don't recall every seeing an Apollo Soyuz Original role call thread. I suspect might be lucky to get two members here. On the other hand, they made almost 2000 Gemini IV and everyone on this message board has one .
The 1975 Apollo-Soyuz Speedy is valued so highly because of limited supply. The 500 were issued all in Italy, and not many have ever come out of Italy. The watch itself is boring really, the mission logo is not particularly attractive (IMHO). The bracelet on the watch is very nice, but I doubt that has any real influence on overall value. The caseback is engraved with a rather uninspiring image. The 35th anniversary Speedyorite is 100x the watch of the original, but, I have to admit, I desperately want a 1975 Soyuz watch having seen it in the metal, there's just something special about it. We'll see what Christie's Soyuz watch sells for tomorrow. I have a bidder #, but I'm sure the opening bid will eclipse my limit.
Remember John, there is 25% to think about before you even raise the paddle. The Soyuz is an epic watch and your right, it looks nothing special... but everyone will want to own it if your a speedy fan!
That 25% premium is exactly why I think my top is not going to work, because I'm factoring that in. I'll be traveling on business, but will setup a nice spot in the airport and will enjoy the entire auction. If nobody else does, I'll post up the gavel prices on each piece in the auction, at least until I have to get on an airplane.
hey, if you only have one, that's it! Wait... how do you only have one Speedy? Are you the kind of guy that can eat just one potato chip?
