Also, if Omega stamped out independent watchmakers, I doubt it would be in any way beneficial for the brand. The last time I reached out to Omega directly for a routine service on a 1998 Seamaster in early 2023, I was told 6-8 months. And that's with some of the workload going to Omega certified independents, one of whom I found locally and who did the work in 9 weeks. The last thing Omega seems to need is even more servicing work.

Frankly, if every time my watch needed servicing I had to be without it for the better part of a year, that would make me think twice about buying another Omega next time.

Perhaps, but also perhaps there is only so much of a local market on the demand side

Bugger. My 1861, seven years young last month, has started losing big time and sounds like it needs a good trip to the spa. I was searching for Adam鈥檚 details when I came across this thread 馃檨. Where鈥檚 the best place to have it serviced in Oz now?

Send him a note, he might be able to service it as an independent.

I haven't been on here for ages, a friend did tell me about this thread but it didn't seem like a good idea to respond at the time.

Yes, I lost my account with OMEGA, I am still in business though. Still servicing the same sort of watches but additionally most ETA/Sellita stuff too. The LWC website has been back up for a while with a price list available to download. My turn around time on most OMEGA models is 6-8 weeks.

If anyone has a watch I had a hand in, then always happy to help identify it or talk specs.

I'm sure you'll all appreciate that it's best for me to not comment on what happened and why.

Thank you to those customers who have continued to support me and my work, there's been some truly cracking older Speedmasters come through the workshop!

Still highly recommended. Nothing has changed because of a lost Omega Factory account. That's only part of his work anyway ...

LWC has been independently servicing and restoring my watches without any interruption since this came about. There is nobody else that I trust to maintain the ongoing attention to detail and assiduous work needed to keep my collection of vintage watches in such superlative condition.
