I think that the early date just seem to be overlooked. They have an amazing variety out there but you don't see them posted very often.
I will start with one I have owned for 3 years. It the ref. 6305 in yellow gold, has a very nice Dore dial with datejust in red. It's 36mm in diameter so fits well for my wrist. The only thing I don't like is setting the date but I can live with that.
Let's see your DJ.

I had the opportunity to pick up something similar for a couple grand. Probably could have negotiated further. I don’t remember the model off hand but according to sales numbers at the time it would have been a fair deal. I just knew so little about them I couldn’t tell if everything was original. I really like these you guys have some nice pieces.

Nice.

Looking a bit more closely, I think it's maybe 1965. Bracelet is dated 65 as is the case back, so maybe the serial number charts are a little off 😁

cheers

Love your DJ! I'm a huge suckler for arrowhead markers 👍 I won't post pictures of my Rolex and potentially hijack the thread, but it sounds like you need an Oyster Ref. 6424!

Let me present you a rare vintage Datejust. Very unusual as this Datejust features a non-oyster case produced specifically for the French market in the 50s.

As you can see, the writing under the Rolex logo only mentions Perpetual and Datejust (and logically does not mention Oyster)

The roulette date is indicated in the window in black for odd dates and in red for even.

One of the many interesting characteristics of this Datejust is the lugs and their unusual shape. This exact model was displayed on the front cover of a French Rolex booklet in the mid 1950s.

I like the look of the case, its wonderful that you found the advertisement that shows that case.

Correction on the maroon dial. I returned just the dial. It has the cream/white sigma pie pan-back to the original.
