Bit of fun for a Friday:

You've been given £2,000/$2,500 to spend on watches, you need to buy a minimum of 3 pieces out of this (no plunging it all on one shiny toy!) - What would you buy?

    $2500..... let's see......

One Seiko dive watch ($200-ish). One Omega stainless pie pan from the 60's (@ $1400). That leaves about $900, which I'd use on a 14k Longines manual wind of some kind.

This is assuming that I didn't have any of the above. This is also subject to change on a whim depending on what shows up on the sales forum. ;)

    Boring!

90% of the watches bought here seem to be in the $1500+ price bracket... what about the other stuff?

    $50 Seiko 5 Auto
    $500 Hamilton Khaki Auto
$950 - Elgin WW2 or some other variation of military watch, in that price range!

As stated above, subject to change at any time lol.

I'd go with some classics from under-appreciated brands. In fact, I did. These are three recent purchases that add up to the sum you're talking about. Around $3k after servicing two of them.

OK, the Mido and the UG were kind of a steal. But you've gotta be careful with your cash when you're on a budget.

+1 on the KonTiki idea... usually the best bang for buck around.

The budget and number keep me from Omega, and there's no vintage pieces I like for that budget. So, sticking to the rules:
    $150 for a Swatch Sistem 51

$300 for a hand wind Hamilton Khaki Field

and $2k for a Hamilton Pan Europ chronograph.

    Nomos Club - $1550
    [IMG]

    Strela Cosmos - $450
    [IMG]

    Seiko Alpinist - $400
    [IMG]

$100 for an extra couple straps or maybe a G-Shock for the dirty work.

Love MMMD's reality post so I'll try to go with that idea.

Two watches bought in a week. Previously two watches in two years. ::shy::

I'll use xe.com to convert into £'s as it's a bit more generous than your US$ limit ;)

Movado Datron HS 360 (17J El Primero movement) - US$2,125 = £1,380 (and I probably overpaid for this)
    Datron.JPG

    Flamboyant Fantome Valjoux 7750 Chronograph
    Euro 394 = £292

    Fantome.JPG

There is a similar, but brown (Fume?), Novart version currently on eBay for a BIN or best offer. I can't get him below £400. (Yet :whistling: )
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NOVART-Si...543?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4ae4d9eaafPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

With the rest I might have a bit of a gamble
This lot went for Euro 478 = £353 about two days ago.

I possibly should have been onto that Speedmaster Quartz :(
[EDIT 1st March 2015: No 'doubt' about it. Turned out to be a NOS and rare prototype
    http://omegaforums.net/threads/omeg...hen-i-opened-the-caseback.22278/#post-242426]

That gives me a total spend of £2,025, so a little over your budget, but you can always go without booze, cigs or food for a few days.
Plus I could have netted five watches  And I should have negotiated harder on the Movado.

Obviously eBay/PayPal aren't as generous with their exchange rates, there is freight to add and potential duties.
Also I'll be up for servicing but will admire my two if I can't afford that straight away.
My policy is "get them in the collection first and worry about the rest later". :D

My grail means I shouldn't really play, but heh ;)

£2000 + 1 kidney still leaves me way short :(
