It’s that time of year again. Time to reflect on all of the crazy ways we spend our money antiquated technology. What did you buy what did you sell? Any regrets? What’s the current state of your watch collection as of the end of 2018? Sold this in the summer. Bought this in the summer then sold it just this week. Bought this early fall. Bought this two weeks ago. Bought this on Tuesday. Current state of the collection. Apparently I like dive watches. My bank account says I’m done for the year but there’s still a few weeks left.
I was over the top this year. I had fun. I bought what I love. Anything I sold has since been forgotten, and if sold, if was to fund purchases in 2018. I was able to complete the Speedmaster Decades Collection (SDC) and also had the opportunity to visit the Omega museum this year. In total only 5 watches purchased in 2018. In order of purchase. Speedmaster Skeleton, limited edition 50. X-33, 2nd Gen. Nodus Diver Mark II Racing, serial range from 1969 Italian Speedmaster, Limited Edition, 1st Edition
First pick up of 2018 is my AP ROO: This summer I added the CK Pulsometer: And most recently I picked up the Pam 690:
Busy year, great additions, with a few independent watchmaker’s along the way. Post Apollo XI, there will be a culling of the herd.
This is my collection at the moment: I sold this 2 weeks ago: 2019 should be the year of first vintage Rolex. Alberto
Most of my regrets are in this thread: https://omegaforums.net/threads/what-i-didnt-win-last-month.75845/
2018 was a Rolex year for me. First I bought a 16710 as a daily wearer. Not in collector’s condition by any means but a nice watch. Then another 16710 in mint and unpolished condition. A real beauty. And last but not least a birthyear 16800 which is currently being serviced. My first GMT purchase will probably have to go in 2019 and I really want to keep the one in the best condition. 2019 will be less expensive I hope
Quite a few outs which I don't h have pics of on my tablet, but these were my 3 ins this year and thrilled with all of them.
Current collection. Really happy to pick up more UGs again. Looking to add a superb 1675 and I think I'm done for now. Sold my Angelus and Mk2. Added these.
Busy year. My top 10: 10) omega seamaster 166.009 9) omega seamaster chronometer 165070 8) omega seamaster chronometer 168023 7) omega seamaster chronometer 168.024 6) constellation 168010 5) rolex submariner 1999 4) IWC cal 8531 3) tudor gmt 2) IWC R820A And number 1: 1) Seamaster 120 166027
Haven’t collected much at all, this year. That is until the last week or so. I have inherited a sizeable cabinet of Accutron parts, parts watches, and project watches. This assortment is a condensation of Accutrons from two deceased watchmakers. So as time has permitted this week, I have sorted parts, and assembled watches from what is there. Two of these I showed here, several days ago. The lobe shaped one in the steel case, and the 218 railroader. But yesterday, I added the one on the left. The Accutron 218 on the ostrich strap. I have run out of ways to organize this growing collection, and will soon be having to make some changes.
My only plan was to buy the omega speedmaster moonphase blue dial pulled the card then a week after I purchased the omega the AD manager called and offered me the rolex gmt batman! Who would refuse to that offer? Hahaha. Then the rest of my collection! Cheers
I only bought two Nivada Chronomaster, a pre Chronomaster with Venus 210 and Ref. 85017 with grey subs, see pic left and middle. I did not buy the exotic Nina from @Florent offered here for some reason, big regret now. Have a happy Holiday Season OF Friends
Ouch ... this was an exercise I didn't want to do. I began the year selling, but I did not maintain that discipline and I'm currently at a net gain of +9 (22 in, 13 out). So an early New Years resolution will be to sell at least 5. Here are some of my favorite acquisitions from 2018.
Moving from mostly Speedy modern - 3 out of 4: to mostly Speedy vintage - 2 out of 3 for now: CK2998 has been replaced by 145.012-67, Silver Snoopy will be replaced by either EW (105.003-64 ?) or First Watch Worn on the Moon (105.012-65 ?) - I am torn, not sure yet.
