Hello, I found this forum via a thread about Lamania and Omega stopwatches. Seems there's numerous forum members that know about Lamania, I was hopping someone might know a little about my farthers Lamania.

It's a Lamania Nero stopwatch, I think it's from the late 1950s. I have a accuracy test certificate dated March 1960.

I have a few images

Hi @C101

Welcome to forum.

As you already know then it's is best efforts. We do what we can. I'll have a dig around, you have an understanding of might be possible.

So, Nero is brand of Lemania that seems to associated with industry pieces. Like factory and millitary timers. As the back doesn't have any distinguishing marks to be able to associate the watch to its history. I must there for ask is the anything on the certificate that would give a clue as to its use? Maybe some nuggets of wisdom form your grandad or dad?

I'm traveling so I'll pick up sometime later. In the mean time congrats on a super good looking piece.

Cheers

Thanks for the welcome and the reply.

Background: I have a certificate of accuracy dated early 1960, the stopwatch was accurate to more than a 10th of a second, which was the requirement for training purposes at the time.

Background RAF, severed all over the World. He joined the RAF just before WWII. Although, he spoke very little about his service history.

I'm fairly sure the stopwatch was used, at one point, for training athletes.

Thanks for taking the time to have a look, it's really appreciated.

Hi again @C101 Some digging has been done!!

Ok looking at @uwsearch excellent image catalog we can see something very similar on row eleven.
Title is "White dial 65mm case, 1'' to 30'' dial, one revolution in 30'', 36000BPH"
Items listed as MG1135 (190,191,1290R), MG1183 (191R), MG1555 (1950Rattr)
Looking further into the data from the table on page 2, i think we are close.

First let me say Uwsearch has made a mega effort and has earned many virtual dinners and beers for his collation of data.

Diameter / img/ lap total / BPH/ Left pusher / Right pusher/ both pusher/left bolt/image row ref

From you images #3, 4, 5 and 6
I can partially read a ref LWO ***21?***
Please can you confirm what this read?(LWO 1210 at a guess)

To summaries i believe your have a very nice Nero Lemania
24''' Mouvement
Calibre 1210
a Split-second Chronograph measuring to an 1/10s
Ref 603.

It would be super cool to see the timing sheet.
It would be the first one i've seen and if serial number is on it its a solid data point for dating the watch.
Your dating info is as good as I can do we are reading the same table.

Was this you granddads personal item?
The reason I ask is its missing its case back markings, ie he did not he sign it out from storers.
or have it documented on a clothing certificate as a part of his kit?

All the best
P

Wow, great reply, thanks it's really appreciated.

As for markings, I'm really not sure, it's his stopwatch, I'm certain of that, quite possibly his personal stopwatch as he was an athlete and coach, while serving and while retired from the RAF.

I want to be a little carefully about what I say, as I know he spent a great deal of time in Europe after WWII, involved in peace keeping and rebuilding, probably would have been near Switzerland. I also know some of his activities were clandestine and not to be discussed.

(As I'm sure you're aware, the situation in Europe after WWII was politically and militarily complex for many decades. Perhaps, still is when you consider the situation in the Ukraine.)

I also know he was very interested in certain forms of administration, sports administration being one of his hobbies.

I get back to you with the numbers you mentioned.

Again, thanks for your effort, it's really very intresting.

I'll also get a picture of the timing certificate, private sector.

I think there's a box/case, I'll see if I can find it.

I've been taking things out of storage over the past few months, hence the stopwatch.

Thanks again and all the best. I'll be back ...

For a workman movement, it’s got a killer charm to it.

@C101
Looking forward to photo's all the trimmings! Also humbly request a couple more shots of the dial side up 😉

Appreciate your comment above and Understood! "Mum's the word" that contains flying slippers.
On that topic I would like to address the phrase "issued". The term refers to an item was signed out from stores in one way or another. These items where marked/engraved in many different ways depending on who owns it and when it was. They were entrusted to the individual who had been assigned them as part of the kit. They would be expected to return the items at the end of their term. Penalties for losing items where also in effect.
There are a whole heap of supporting documents with specifications varying from mess to darkroom clock; to that of ships chronometers and navigational tools like stopwatches and chronographs. These specs would be used to procure these item from the market and also to maintain existing stock.

Hello, I said I would be back, 😀.

I've been searching through a great deal of storage 'stuff' and found a few things related to the stopwatch.

OK, it appears I have two boxes for the stopwatch, I've included an image of one as it has a REF number on it (mentioned earlier in the thread?)

I've also, got one of the accuracy test certificates, April 1960. These's a few more of these..

See images attached.

***EDIT*** I've removed images, as a little concerned re names etc. I'm fairly sure my concerns are unwarranted, I just a little uncomfortable.

Thanks again for all your input, it's very much appreciated. I think, time permitting, I'll take the stopwatch to a specialist for an inspection and service.
