Hello guys,

I'd need your help. I've found a mesh bracelet that I would like to use on my speedy and Baltic panda.

However I'm a bit suspicious. Indeed, the bracelet is for 20mm lugs, but it is the reference 1247/237. From what I've found it the ref of the 22mm one, the 20mm should be 1380/237. I've not found anything about such fakes, but I'm not sure.

What do you guys think about it ? Should I go or should I run away ?

Cheers !

Hmm I'm wearing mine as I type so just had a quick compare. You are correct on the ref of the 20mm. One thing that doesn't look right to me is the end links, in the second pic the edge of the topmost link section doesn't look right(cut off look) and more like the cheaper alternatives. Each chain link section is solid on mine and none appear thin like that.

If it was me I would probably leave it personally. No idea if these are faked but those two details would be enough to put me off.

EDIT, also don't know about the 22mm but the 20mm links are flat on one side and rounded on the flip, looks the same both sides there. My feeling is that's fake.

Thanks for your input. I had the same concern about the lack of flat side and the rough edges of the links.

I'll wait for a few more opinions but I guess I'll leave this one.

Its doesnt look like an Omega mesh to me either. All Omega mesh are made up of 9 links across, the edges of the links are flat and very well finished, also as already mentioned one side of the mesh is flatter and the other side is rounded.
Honestly when you handle a genuine Omega mesh you can really feel the quality of finish compared to a cheaper mesh.

Hello all,

I recently, thanks to lockdown, came across an Omega Seamaster Calypso Quartz watch which was given to me many years ago, over 30 in fact. A friend had it from new in, I think, 1981. He lost the bezel insert and an inefficient jeweller replaced the battery, but broke the battery "strap". When he next went to get the battery replaced he was told that the "strap" was broken, so the battery could not be fitted. He knew that I like watches so he gave it to me. At the time only mechanical watches interested me, I put it away and forgot all about it. When I refound it this week I decided to do a little research. So to the question which is appropriate to the thread.

The bracelet, which my friend told me had been on the watch from new, is a sharkmesh type. From reading this thread I saw that the bracelet should be nine parts wide, but this strap is nine, then eight, then nine again and so on. The buckle is marked:-

First line 37 in a circle STAINLESS STEEL Omega logo in a triangle
Second line OMEGA
Third line 1380/237

There are then, between the rectangular indents, the very small letters SP.

Could someone who is familiar with these bracelets please tell me if it is an original Omega part, or an old "pattern" part bought after market?

Thank you,
Kerry

Interesting, I didn't know about the 9 sections but just counted mine and sure enough yes that is correct.

Here is mine for comparison with the flat side out.

Can you take some better photographs? Those are quite blurry. Those outer edge section do look a little thin in places which is typical of cheaper versions.

Thank you Tet, sadly I am not a great photographer, but I will try again when the light is better. But as you may see, your end links also appear thinner than the inner ones. On mine in the 8-piece sections, the links are all of a thicker section, but the outer ones are of the 9 piece rows are thinner, presumably so that nine "wires" are the same width as 8, if you get my meaning? Where the thinner sections link through they become full thickness in the following row. I had not noticed this curious set-up, perhaps as you suggest, a cheaper "Knockoff". My friend was insistent that he had not changed the bracelet, but he had had the watch for ten years or more, and the memory can play tricks on any of us!
Cheers
Kerry.
