Leather & weather?

Hi all, after wearing my SM300 on a NATO for the past four years, I decided to put it on the leather strap it was born on.

I followed the recommendations on using the Bergeron tool, taping the lugs and succeed without a single scratch.

Is this strap able to be exposed to water? (Sink/rain- NOT meaning swimming) ?

it’s the genuine Omega tan color with the deployant clasp, which I’m LOVING.

Thanks all

Impossiblle to avoid, really. But leather's natural aging is part of its charm!

I much prefer that watch on its leather strap personally. Nice combo.

Looks superb. I’ve just ordered an Omega black strap and deployant to use as my semi-dress watch.

Thanks all.

I’ve owned the strap since I got married (gift from my wife) and actually have the black strap as well (wore to my wedding) but almost immediately put it on a Nato. Damn I’ve been missing a lot lol!

truly love it on the strap and LOVE the deployant clasp!

This will help keep that strap in good shape. You can use it on light-colored leather as well; it will only darken temporarily.

Made in Milwaukee Wisconsin USA! (perhaps not but it's a company local to me, so...)

Lots of good stuff out of Milwaukee! Harley, Tools.

Thanks I will be ordering some.

Allen Edmonds used to supply this for their belts and other non-shoe products. Why they stopped, I don't know. But Fiebings OEMs a lot of leather products under their own and other brands. You can trust them. Their glycerine saddle soap also works on fine leather straps. Note fine leather straps!

I've had the exact same strap (and watch) for a couple years. It will age, get darker and develop a nice patina.

After abut 3 years of daily wear my leather Omega strap is pretty darkened from sweat stains and a crack has formed in line with one of the holes that is almost all the way across. I plan on replacing it with a new one this winter. I think it held up pretty well considering it sees a lot of hot/ humid summer days around DC (and I am outside a bit for work).

If you use this lotion about four times a year, you might have better results. Also the glycerine "saddle soap" will help.

I am known (to a small few) for washing shoes under the tap with this soap.

The majority of my watches I wear on leather NATO straps... winter, spring, summer, fall. Fortunately, it doesn't get very hot or humid where I live, but, I still sweat and the changes in the color of the leather only add to its charm. I occasionally use a leather conditioner to soften the leather as it can get stiff if you sweat too much.

that strap actually does quite well in water. The Barenia leather won’t discolor once it dries and it has a rubber lining. It will darken over time to a color somewhere between the original tan and a milk chocolate brown, but will continue to compliment the watch for many years.

this post has reminded me how good that strap looks on the Seamaster 300MC and prompted me to put it back on mine for the fall.

Hirsch makes a water resistant (100m?) alligator strap called the Viscount. I prefer it on my Speedmaster over the bracelet and other leather strap designs.

Ah thank you and everyone. I’ve never worn it on the Barenia, even though that’s how it was “born” when my wife bought it four years ago. She had them change (add) the Omega black leather strap before giving it to me as a wedding gift and I wore it with my tux. I almost immediately bought and put it on the Bond Nato, as to make it look less formal. So I decided it’s a nice fall colored strap, and WOW does it change the look. I can’t say enough how much I love the deployant clasp! This watch is amazing.
