With the release this week from Omega of their 1913 single pusher chronograph all of my watch fantasies were fulfilled. It is a shame that I would never have been able to afford one of the 18 pieces that were made but I can still dream about it at night. It is claimed that T.E, Lawrence wore this watch and I know that there are some who dispute this. I was wondering, what watch did Peter O'Toole wear for the film? Several years ago I recall looking through an Omega catalogue and seeing the listing of the 1913 chronograph with a military-style Omega that they said was worn for the film but I cannot recall anything about the movement or pattern of the watch. I would love to know if anyone has some insight into this.

Nothing like resurrecting an old thread. This is the best image I could find from the film used prop. Definitely not a WW1 chronograph! Would be interested to hear peoples thoughts.

It looks like actor Peter O'Toole's wristwatch had a touch of red color in it... the film was shot in 1961 & 1962

It would be nice to ID the watch in the film (assuming it is all the same watch) some kind of big crown / military watch. Also there is something going on with the case at 9pm...the case also looks rather deep. I would have thought someone could ID it from that. Made me think of a pocket watch conversion for a brief moment .

60 years ago... "Lawrence of Arabia"... the movie
On December 10, 1962 English film director/producer David Lean's epic movie " Lawrence of Arabia ", about the life of British Army officer Thomas Edward Lawrence during the Arab Revolt, had its Royal premiere and showings in London movie theatres.

The best translation of the Odyssey I ever read was his.

I quite enjoy the film, even if there is not one single female character in it. (might be some in the background and I think some dead ones are seen.) Does make for an interesting statement by the film makers.

The music and the visuals are something. I am old enough to remember this in the Cinema with the largest of screens. One does not really notice the absence women. On the other hand who needs the competition. There is plenty of eye candy for those of us on the distaff side.

Something else to wach out for, is that some of the scenes were flipped for composition. So O'tool appears to eat with his left hand. (something that would make an Arab sick.) That would make the watch read backwards and may jump from one arm to the other. I think some of this may have been adjusted in the restoration (But not what the director/editor intended.)

I wonder why films about Allen Turing always add in a fictional love interest?

Beautiful picture and that watch sure is a thick one. Nice big diameter too. With that what-ever-it-is widening of the case at 9:00 it surely would rule out most watches and should make identification a snap if it really existed and was produced. Could it simply be a one-off non-running prop for the movie?

I read somewhere, a long time ago, that the “fish tail” exhaust pipes weren’t simply decorative but actually produced more power. I think that article said it was a lost art, nobody could figure out the hows and whys of the design. Notice too the “cross-over pipes”, similar to the pipes on a Chevrolet 409 (and almost every performance V8.). The fish tails don’t appear in the photo I posted.
