Latest craze - Universal Geneve rare boxes

I was recently offered a box very similar (and in immaculate condition) to the box that recently appeared on ebay. The price was astronomical but, it was in amazing condition, as if it had just left the factory. Seems the parafinalia that accompanies the UG brand is going in the same direction as Heuer. Where the heck are these coming from ? Any clues?

Hi,

I saw that on ebay, IMO these are fakes.
New condition, no aging at all and supposed to be 60 years old 馃槙
Besides the front logo is wrong:
. Dots instead of lines.
. Diagonal line should be larger inside of the left side of the wheel.
. Font size of Universal should be the double compared to Gen猫ve.
. ...

I have some carrier bags if anybody's interested. I've thought about leaving them out on the balcony overnight so that they acquire some patina.

I picked this up a couple of years ago with a 1950s Aero-Compax, but I'm guessing it is from the mid to late 1960s.

Is this box genuine? If so, what period is it from and what might it have housed?

I think some on the market right now MIGHT be fakes. I recently saw a Universal Geneve in NOS condition that went up for a small price, and the guy also offered an "original" box. Something seemed fishy honestly.

Hello!
The box is original and very rare.
I own a box equal to what you showed.
The box is for a tri-Compax product between 1944 and 1953.
In a recent sale by Christie's, a Compax gold was sold with a box, the same as photographed, in excellent condition, but dark blue color.

I do not doubt it is original and I have traced the source. These treasures are still around. Amazing what pops up from an old watchmaker 's workshop when it is cleared. It was far too expensive for me to consider. However, if 60-70s watch boxes go for over 1000 euro, this one from the 40's should be well worth at least that ...

The only UG box I have (sorry for the messy setting, it is my work desk). Came with the 60/70 aero compax.

that's a 70-80's box (definitely not a 60's)
Thanks, I thought the logo looks to be of later UG.

Hey guys.

Here's another box. Original box that came with a 1940s Compax (which itself isn't original anymore). Presently being used by my girlfriend to store a necklace and it's doing a damn good job at it. Perhaps, over qualified to do such a task since it's worth more than the necklace, but 70 years young (and in pretty good shape) it's earned a little R and R.

Now that's a rarity ... Is that snake/lizard skin I see? I would have thought that would not be allowed in the US. That is one very special box probably worth its weight in gold. 馃槈

An here's a big box full of little boxes
..perhaps like Churchill's "riddle, wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma"?
