When your last resort is a redial, who is the best?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

PM Northernman. His 30CH redial is spectacular. German shop I think.

No easy answer. Some are better at specific brands than others, but the only common theme I've seen over the years is that none are good all the time - quality is variable even from the same shop on the same brand.

    I've used Michael Young twice.
First time for a re-lacquer - came out great.
Second for a touch up - not their best work.

Here are some more shots...while not in the best shape, it is a 2nd gen 35.5mm 3t. One solid hunk of steel on the wrist. 20170624_112812.jpg 20170624_112841.jpg 20170624_112735.jpg 20170624_112707.jpg 20170624_112722.jpg 20170624_111355.jpg

35mm is very small... Not sure it will worth the effort... That is somehow a very common watch and it will be easier to buy another longines from the same era...And there is so much speedmaster out there!! Speedy price are going crazy and you should save some.bucks before it is too late....

My watchmaker would not recommend them. It is a piece of gambling if you get a good or a bad result. It highly depends of the person who is executing the redial. And there are reports that if there is a problem, it is difficult to discuss with them as you pay in advance.

Personally, I had good experiences with
    http://causemann-zifferblaetter.de/
It takes some time until you get it back, but I like the result. For comparison:

Great to know, thanks again. Their work looks great. I am thinking of going with something simple with no lume, like this... Screenshot_20170624-222847.jpg or keep the original...

Can you ask what you want or you must stay in the same rough style? Such as white dial are redialed in white etc...?

I have no idea...they strip back to the metal and start over, so I guess you can get whatever you want.

I mean mirror gilt with faux radium...but who would ever think that looks cool

You just have to show what you want. He doesn't care about the original dial.

But some executions are not possible. For example this one:
    $_58.JPG
    - He doesn't have the font for the "4".
    - The two tone ring of the tachymeter scale is not possible as it is open to one side.

@watchknut I think that second example with the sector dial looks fantastic. I would request that if you have the option. Good luck!!

That is what most likely came on the watch originally...will need to find good pics with non patinated color schemes.

    Keep it original. Always!!
My redial project was done on top of an already poorly done one.
    Otherwise: KIO. KEEP IT ORIGINAL.

I'm amazed that the technology doesn't exist to get a perfect result every time from a redial - if it's just a case of reprinting the thing.

Adding lume obviously causes an extra layer of complexity but if you're just printing you'd think it can be done easily - get the perfect image on a computer etc then just print the thing.

    Or am I being naive
