And, the rise of unemployment, poverty, violence, and social unrest, doesn't bode well for a lot of other watch and jewelry stores in Europe, the USA, or any other country.
It might also might be a warning to watch owners like us to be careful where we choose to wear an expensive watch.
.
These crooks are getting more bold. I know one high end jewelry/watch store in the southern Caribbean that has been invaded TWICE during business hours. Two masked men walk in past the guard, one brandishes a gun and his partner uses a hammer to smash the glass cases to steal the high end watches (Dubuis, AP, GO and whatever vintage and consigned watches on display), in and out in under three minutes. Once a gun is in the mix no owner is going to resist or risk injury/death to himself or customers. Police figure the robbers are gangs coming from Venezuela since that country has been ruined.
My sister lives in Las Vegas area and her son-in-law who is in law enforcement says gangs are now on the Strip because crowds are lower and law enforcement not as much involved, but the media and city government are keeping it hushed up, once serious robberies, muggings and murders become common place on the Strip it's over, everyone will stay away.
Bottom line, things are deteriorating quickly in many parts of the world for some obvious reasons this year. Protect your valuables more than usual is the watchword, keep your head on a swivel and use caution, it might get worse before it gets better.

And also a possible reminder to be careful what you post on public forums. Avoid advanced notice of vacations, posting 'in progress' vacation photos, etc. Who needs to know that no one is at your house?
