I loaded three images on but they didn't come up. Am I missing something about loading them They each went up to 100% and I assumed they would be on.

I tried again to load the three images on a reply. They don't seem to have worked.

I've dragged them in and it might not be the correct way, but they seem to work.

    Thank you.

I downloaded your first image and then added it here using the "add photos" button after resizing to 2048 wide. They are very high resolution and that might be why they don't show in your post. Interesting watch though.

You've got yourself a fob watch in 18 carat gold set with twelve diamonds. Those diamonds look to be old European or mine cut. Style is late deco into streamline so, not being sure what that hallmark is, I'm going to guess this is mid-thirties French.

Can you remove the case back and get any serial or reference numbers from the movement or (only possibly with this one, I think) the inside of the back?

Scrap price on this is going to be somewhere north of £4000/$5000 depending on cut, clarity and size.

(Now open her up and tell me it's a modern fake)

It is her late mother-in-law's watch and she knows it was given to her in 1955. Sister-in-law had a jeweler look at in once and got the serial number which is Omega serial number 19002 11060303. Thank you so much for your help. We are Australian, so that is why I didn't reply right away, it was quite late when I tried to download. I just noticed your estimate of £4000/$5000 Should this be pounds and pounds or $s?

A low 11 million serial number puts you in 1947/48 which is a little surprising for the style ... but then, you antipodeans were never the most fashion conscious ;)

It's a great example of what it is. I doubt the case and hanger were made by Omega. It is most likely a piece made by a jeweller and if it is a known maker that will affect the value. Guessing the size of the dial at something over 20mm, those stones are sizeable. The reflections make the cut hard to see and the clarity impossible - but let's say you have over 8 carats there and just estimate them at £250 a carat, scrap - there's £2000. 18 carat gold is £22 per gramme ... the weight of this, less the movement ... who knows?

Now, if it's Hermes or some top flight maker ... you can add to the value.

I would suggest that the watch itself is of relatively little value but to the right collector ... yeah, I'll stick with £4000 or $5000US.

She is interested in selling it. Would this site be the right place to do it and if so, how can I do this for her?

You would need 200 posts to be able to post in the Private Sales section here. This is one that might be better for a brick and mortar auction house, which give free appraisals, since this is more of a jewelry piece than a collector's watch.

Sounds fair. Australia might be too small a market, but who knows. I'll make enquiries for her. I appreciate your advice.

Just testing a low digital image. This is a 2m photograph of the watch my lovely wife gave me for our wedding in 1972. SAM_8473.JPG
