At dinner last night, my friend's wife expressed a great interest in vintage Ladymatics, the models before they started plastering them with diamond pavé. But I don't know much about the models; I've had a look on eBay on her behalf, but nothing really spoke to me. Is there anyone out there with more experience on ladies watches, styles, who might be able to give me a steer towards particularly nice models? She prefers leather straps to metal bracelets. Gold finish to silver or white gold. She's into vintage, so timeless elegance is the order of the day. Thoughts, anyone?
As with most things Omega, the Laydmatic came in a wide array of styles, so I suggest you set up an eBay search specific to "Omega Ladymatic", save the search in your my eBay and set it to send you email updates when new listings are added and just keep looking. Not necessarily recommending any of these but here a just a few strap styles: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Ome...323518843?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item3387e8e37bPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-195...300047452?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item3a82a66a5cPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network http://www.ebay.com/itm/DECO-VINTAG...945768667?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item565e173cdbPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-Ome...706341621?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item5af7e9a6f5Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network One thing to keep in mind is price, women's watches are much less collectable and hence much less valuable in general terms, what may look like a huge bargain for a mans watch could likely be an over priced ladies watch.
Thanks XJR - yep, I know about the much lower prices for ladies' watches. Kinda fun to see such good movements going for such low price, eh? Your search results turned up many of the same babies I'd had a look at. In a way, it's a shame she doesn't like the gold bracelet look, because I'm fast coming to the conclusion that the only longer term value in these models is in the intrinsic gold value. But I suspect I'll find her the best GP I can locate, happy to let the search pop up for a few weeks until the best possible shows up. Thanks, of course, for your take on it.
It took me a full day to realise that I forgot to post the most explanatory : Omega Ladymatic Ref11000 from 1961 caliber 455 :
