Just received from the watchmaker, a 1950s KX 6275, a Seamaster Calendar,. caiber 502. This is one attractive watch. This watch was intended for the US market. The lug size is not 18mm, but 11/16". 18mm straps do not fit. The strap appears NOS, and is an Omega-branded strap of 11/16" shiny alligator clearly made (though not marked) by Jacoby Bender. The strap tapers to 1/2", is a long length, and ends with an unmarked plated buckle with a stamped Ω applied. Case is 14K gold filled. Dial looks a lot better in person and is clearly original. External parts replaced include hands, crystal, and crown. Internal parts replaced include barrel and mainspring, balance staff, center wheel, fourth wheel, sweep seconds pinion, and some of the time-setting parts. The case was hand-polished by me using Simichrome, and the watchmaker agrees with me that the final product looks much nicer. Time will tell (heh) how good the timekeeping is, but it is surely an attactive watch. Tom
Now, looking at the print and the position and alignment of 'Seamaster Calendar' I think it's obvious the dial was redone.
Interesting that you say that it is clearly a redial, as I would have said otherwise. I haven't had the watch in hand though! Also very nice detail with the odd lug width! I have experienced the same with vintage LeCoultres, where the 16mm width wasn't quite that in reality. That's one hell of a project! Do you have any "before" images??
It’s original, you can see it is flawless under a loupe. As for the word CALENDAR, if you look on eBay, you can see lot of variation, and some like mine. Sorry, no “before” pictures. Tom
Alas, the long strap proved too long. Fortunately a JB Champion shiny alligator fits well, and some time back I saw an advertisement for this watch with gator/croc strap. I firmly believe, much to my mild disappointment, that the 2627 case (which this is), was never intended to be used with a bracelet. Tom
