I asked this question in the "Seiko deserves its own spot..." thread but the traffic was slow (thanks @michael22 and @sxl2004 for your thoughts) so I thought I broaden the horizons. I have an opportunity to pick up a king seiko j14102 and I would like some opinions. It looks pretty good to me but, given what I see from most examples, almost too good. I'm also not sure what's going on with the dial. Is there an issue or is it just the photos? The photos are a mix of the seller's and the person who sold it to him. Anyway, your thoughts are appreciated. https://imgur.com/a/fjJwbXb
Definitely spots on the dial, most evident between centre and 8 marker, but I don't know how much they'd show in real life on the wrist.
Didn't @Bill Sohne just pick up one of these? They all look the same to me https://omegaforums.net/threads/first-generation-king-seiko.80342/
Hi Actually I was going the pick up a 14012 34/ 35 mm in diameter..... but then I read about the 15034 which is a 36 mm diameter case... same movement.... Best bill
Finding a decent 15034 that isn't ridiculously overpriced, is not an easy task. Which is why I'm looking for a good 14012, before the same happens to it.
Hi @efauser The 15034 i have picked up are not mint examples... but price was fine for me... under 500$ .... getting one more with a Special Dial.... and will have to miss out on the later KS... Good Hunting Bill
You'll get no argument from me. You're one of the lucky ones who got a nice example at at very nice price.
No the dial looks fine. Minor spots, text looks right, i don't think it is a redial. The thing though, about brands like Seiko, Breitling chronographs, Omega and Rolex, is that they have a massive following and a deep market for vintage models. I am just throwing speculations around, but I won't be surprised if there are any entities out there that make such dials/parts professionally. In other words, professional redials.
From a design point of view, it's a bold dial for the minimalist approach Seiko applied here. Can imagine it having quite the presence on the wrist. Wonder if those spots on the dial can be cleaned away?
hello.... interesting topic here, please allow me to ask something i recently just acquired j14102e. until now i am still wondering which is the actual first KS? 14102 or 15034? or they both released together at the same time? cheers, rudi
I found this the other day. It has more info about King Seikos than I have seen. http://www.egalizer.hu/targyak/orak/kings.htm
