Kids watches - high end options??

My daughter is 8 and has really become interested in my watches and watches in general (she loves Omega watches, as she loves the history of the moon watch). She has a Casio Baby-G which fits her well and she has enjoyed it, and takes good care of it even though it's a Gshock.

I would like to get her something more upscale.

What options are out there for kids?

I really can't find much and would appreciate any ideas or options.

Thank you!

I Will follow the answers as I wonderred about that too. I was thinking about getting a small vintage one but it would Have to be made waterproof again and get a « saphire » crystal…
Otherwise I found pedagogic Watch like twistiti but that’s not what I wanted…

It's not high end but I love the idea behind blok watches. Ordered my daughter a 31, not sure when it will get here from the US though.

My son has a g shock (his second) but never wears it. Left the first one in a pub. Lent him my orient - came back with a heavily scratched crystal.

In conclusion - high end and children do not go together. Intrigued for how the blok looks and whether it gets worn.

I just hope that you won’t get anything that will stop her from behaving like kids do for fear of breaking an expensive watch. I would wait for her til be a couple of years older and then get her a nice, small vintage watch; many nice vintage Seiko, Tissot etc.

Move from Gshock to a Swatch… still good for a kid but lots of options from fun to a bit more “upscale” without being too serious or a theft target.

I'm wondering if she's still a little too young for this. It's kind of like buying her a top of the line iPhone. I did that once for my daughter when she was younger and it didn't last a week before the screen was cracked. After that I followed the recommendation of my Verizon rep and she got the Casio Gzone which the rep affectionately described as the "Verizon Commando" -- the ultimate kid's phone, certified for military use, and unbreakable. You could drive over that phone with your car and it would be fine. 😁

Just a little more info - She wants to continue to wear her Gshock - for fun, play, swimming, etc as she knows it won't break. However, she wants a nice dress watch for going out on special occasions. She takes very good care of things and is quite unique for a kid her age. My son, nope, Gshock only! haha

Well, I’ve entered my second childhood and squandered £9.99 on this new watch.

That said, I bet all children could program it (set the time, day, date etc) quicker than me.

(Thank goodness for YouTube videos)

If you think she's ready for a mechanical watch, what about an old style Seiko 5? Lots of choice, 37mm in size and between £100 - £200 on Amazon.

I got some ladies Tag/Heuer watches. One came from a Hawaiian pawn shop. I would swear they were found on the beach. Yet they still run.
There are a lot of options for mid sized ladies dress watches. Which I think are underrated.

I may still have the Timex I got when I was 6 or 7. This was becouse I missed the last month of school when we were supposed to learn how to tell time.

I suspect there may not be a mainspring in it. I could never get the mainsprings back into the watch. I found years later some of my mom's watches were missing mainsprings as well.

I had a toy clock designed to be taken apart and re assembled. (found a similar one when I was collecting clocks in the 1990s.) Sometimes I think the old toys were much more interesting before everyone lawyered up and went after small parts and bad chemicals.

I do not see the youth of today any smarter than we were.

+1 on the Seiko 5 (that was posted when I was getting ready to hit reply.)

Yeah, I also had a Timex at 8. My next watch was a gold plated Smiths Astral at about 14.

Does she need a child specific watch or is it just an issue of size? If the latter, I’d imagine that you could find a quartz ladies watch at a local watch store or department store that wouldn’t be too large. I’m not sure why it would need to be high end, as long as it looks dressy.

Thank you! Those Blok watches are pretty interesting - ordered one for my son. He is rough on things, but this looks pretty tough and cool.

I like the way they've changed the hour markers and the bezel to make them make a bit more sense to a child. My daughter struggles a bit with analogue time so hoping this will bring it to life a bit better for her. The whole package just seems well thought out. Time will tell on the quality / durability.

Why should an eight year old child have a high end watch?
Is it diving, is it flying, is it racing,
does it have a tight schedule in his daily life, or
is it already collecting watches?

What is the purpose?

Timex, Seiko, and Swatch are good ideas. My 5 year old wore this to Kindergarten a few times lol. Basically a fake gold DateJust.

I guess it all depends on what we call high end. I don’t know for the OP but for me I was Having in mind a durable and quality case / movement and a dial that would be easy to read.

Also I was thinking about this as a gift. A gift as for instance a nice fountain pen you can offer to kids who start writing.

This does not mean breaking the bank and it means accepting it is going to get scratched and bumped.

But I will bet my wife who is wiser than me think as you do.

How much do you want to spend? What about all those 'mid-size' seamaster 300s out there, going relatively unloved.
