Well, you can never know the rationale behind these decisions as an outsider, but I'd do the same in a heartbeat (partner at a VC/private equity firm means jackpot)

Whether he is, or is not, he has seen little business success. Found it quite curious that the VC's would put him in charge of Hodinkee. And here we are two years later, he is out and has "doubled revenue" while tripling the team (?). Fwiw, in the world of venture, thats pretty crap and I'm sure the special edition VC's and Zenith's havent hurt the bottom line.

In any case, I for one am hoping for a return to a more enthusiast focused Hodinkee, not one that is chasing the next big price tag.

The VC that hired him is the same that is funding Hodinkee.

Double rev with triple team size is pretty impressive actually at the staff scale and rev numbers they have. Their rev numbers are super high. Hodinkee had rev from outside the website that was surprisingly big. Don't think of them as solely web based. They most likely quaded web revenue.

I see nothing thing odd here in fact it might have been part of his contract when he joined hodinkee.

Honestly forgot he was on the Hodinkee team until just now. I've found Hodinkee less interesting reading lately anyways, and some of that did coincide a bit with when he took the helm. Will be interested to see what changes Clymer will bring on his way back at the helm.

It's weird though that he announced it whilst Hodinkee does not mention its own CEO changed

The article states in a roundabout way it has not happened yet, but in the next few weeks.
