Anyone could easily pull up a few stats that support the other guy and make the opposite point. I’m not going to because I don’t want this to turn into a Messi v Ronaldo debate, I just wanted to point that out.
I'm sure Messi fans (I'm one) can point to a few stats, but the numbers that point to greatness mostly point to Ronaldo.
You're not looking at assists? Look that up in your stats please. And medals? Lothar Mattheüs has more medals then johan cruijff... but johan had in one finger more talent then the whole of lothar. there were a lot of attacking players with better goal ratio then cruijff. But we all know johan was one of the best. Never won a medal with his national team... I'm looking at football skills, intelligence and pure talent. And messi blows Ronaldo away... by far. And very important.... I hate Ronaldo...

Everyone's entitled to their opinion on who the greatest footballer of any given generation might be, but "assists" is scraping the barrel. Also you are wrong about Cruyff, he did indeed win a medal with his national team, but it has Runner Up 1974 stamped on it.
