    Hi all,

I just won this Seamaster 321 on ebay for $2,000USD.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-1960-039-S-MENS-OMEGA-SEAMASTER-WATCH-/181712397711?autorefresh=true&nma=true&si=37BeEsX4FaN77ka6AuRWkc90vAs%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

I am not a newbie, this isn't my first one, but the fact that I was the only bidder has me thinking.

    Any thoughts?

Note that the ref number in the description is wrong - it's for a later model with baton hands and index and different case. The one in the caseback is right (CK2907/2).
Movement will need to be cleaned but appears complete and works according to the seller. It's an early serial with the early symmetrical part (can't remember what it's called).
The overall condition is "barn-find"-like which I appreciate, will not know how clean the dial and hands really are until a service though.
I think the price is fair, I believe they often sell for about 3,000USD, which gives me some room for a service - and anyway that really only matters if I decide to get rid of it!

    Appreciate any comment!

I bought this recently for a very similar price, $1925 I think. A little older, circa 1956-57.
Also, one of the nicest watches I own was won on Ebay as the only bidder.

There is a wide range of prices for these 321's.

Asking by dealers seems to be around the 3000 mark, but it is possible to "bottom feed" ebay and pick one up for $1500-1800 when they come on an open auction.

I like them, but don't know enough about them. Certainly from my limited observation there is a variation of the references, and that may account for price variation.

I do believe that for the moment the market is a small one. That may change, as people appreciate the 321 in something other than a speedmaster for double the money.

Tell you something else, these Seamaster dials really show how good Speedmaster dials are at coping with moisture damage and age by comparison. If Omega had chose a white dial for the moonwatch rather than black, we'd all be fighting for the few good ones.

Yes there are quite a lot of variations, hard to pick out a pattern though in terms of price.
I personally love the ones with the "dagger" hands, stereotypical Singer chrono registers.
The cases vary a bit also, I like this one with fat lugs and bevels!

That's good to know, very nice find!

That is very true, I am anxiously waiting to see how this one turns out to be in the metal!

I think a lot of the crud is just the crystal, I wouldn't bother polishing that one I'd just replace it as part of the service (do get it serviced before you wear it as 321 parts are too expensive to replace to risk it).

There is going to be some patina and discolouration / spotting on the dial too though, just nowhere near as bad as it looks.

I'm not sure about it. My 2907/2 has a 15997xxx serial number and different dial (mine is the gold colour case), but there does seem to be lots of variations around and of course parts may have been changed over the years including mine which I've no idea is 100% correct :D

I do really like these watches but they are just too small for my wrists

I was watching this but didn't jump on it. It does look like a very legit example.

I think it was a good buy. Though there is generally uncertainty about if anyone is really buying those ones that get listed at $3000. Regardless, at this price and to keep it yourself, it's solid.

That figure seems optimistic to me with that condition.

I believe that just after you change to new crystal with a bit of cleaning , plus servicing engine inside ( as I had experience with my Mk II racing dial ),
this watch will look much much better and more handsome than what you paid.
    Congratulation.... and enjoy yours.;)

That is a nice early cal. 321 Seamaster - the dial used AFAIK only in this model (unique "s" font in seamaster). Here is one I have in a gold plated case (also have one in SS case like yours):

crystal replacement will improve this watch a lot. ask your watchmaker for a very short dip in silver solution and straight rinse in water. that will get rid of many spots...... good buy ! kind regards. achim

Thank you very everyone for the nice comments!

Here is the one we bought together with my dad about a year ago (we both started collecting and thought we should share a watch!), it's on his wrist now and I can't wait to get mine:
