Ok. Will start with the 2915 on ebay I missed in 2012 because I slept while auction ended and my alarm did not go, after having followed this auction for more than a week nervously. It was 4 o'clock in the morning here and those days, I didn't have any bidding agent, to save me from own failure.

It was a beautiful 2915-1 with 15.997.... serial and most likely the successful buyer is here?

I have two children and a beloved wife. I will remember this past opportunity for the rest of my life. Just one click of the mouse at the right time would have been one giant leap for family... Well, I'm stating this now, thinking of that my original pure passion has become an investment thing over the years. And, deep in myself I begin to dislike this fact!

And that surely was not the major reason for this post...

It was more I wanted to share passion considering watches. :)

Anybody here to share with me?

I‘ll make it short and sweet: NOS Enicar Sherpa super jet, was offered for 1800€ By the seller. I Had a quick chat with someone who‘s an authority on Enicars and got an evaluation of about 2-2.2k € for this piece in NOS condition. So it would‘ve been a good deal.

    Well:

No deal was struck as the seller preferred to not ship the watch and he sold it locally to a guy that offered him 1.500 cash and a F2F. Understandable from the sellers perspective, unfortunate for me.

Fast forward to last Sunday: I‘m at the watch fair in FFM, low and behold I spot a NOS Enicar sherpa jet, I‘m 99% confident that it is the same watch. Dealer was asking 3.8k € ..... bummer.

Here are some pictures of the original add:

5000 euro eBay buy-it-now listing that I pondered for just too long. It was still up around 10-15 minutes after it first appeared which made me less certain. The longer I waited, the more it seemed like less of a deal, but decided to commit after another 5 minutes. Just before clicking I thought I’d give myself another minute to review in my mind and went to put the kettle on. Came back and it had sold 30 seconds earlier.

Then there was this earlier this year. 4000 USD buy-it-now. I’m in Europe so it was going to be more like 5000 after duty. I didn’t really know Speedmasters well enough, and the bracelet kept throwing me off. I had enough time to pull out MWO and start frantically investigating, but it sold before I could decide. I don’t see ever getting a chance like this again.

Tourneau store, around 2005-2006. They had a Speedmaster Professional, probably from the '80s, but I really don't know as I didn't know the intricacies at the time. No box or papers, which is why I didn't get it ::screwloose::for $1100. Came with a 1 year Tourneau warranty too. May even have been on a 1450 bracelet, as I know it was different than the modern Speedy. I have kicked myself FOR YEARS over that one.

@Winston 1984 ... I find it mighty curious that, back in 2012 you were hunting 2915's on eBay (going for 15k, which I guess then was stupid money), and yet you only joined OF on Saturday, and ask us for help on 2998 dials today ... mighty curios ...

Oh well...better late than never :) Welcome!

@cicindela And yes, obviously the title of this thread lets open space for the 'how about', which I personally think is fine. :)

Regardless of the lume, the early dial is probably worth almost £15k. If the movement and case checked out it's obviously a no brainer in today's prices.

Nevertheless, I'm not convinced that a watch that's clearly had work, likely in the the 80's/90's aged to have such a uniform plots. Not an issue now as we're into hypotheticals.

As you might take from my Avatar, I'm not someone who needs groups in form of collective thinking.

I might not need this forum for my own pleasure, but I think at least I have something to share with you all and I'll try to do my best.

I swear I am someone who is willing to bring in positive effects here. At least I try to do my best and I'm open for open critics any time.

I love open critics, because it makes it easier to say sorry.

I simply love watches, like all of you here.

And yes, no doubt, Speedies are my favourite ones...;) They are even beyond critics...

What did that 2915 sell for? If it feels any better I feel like I got kicked in the nuts for you.

It's like a minefield out there, I'm not sure I would be dropping a large amount of money on any vintage watch via ebay without doing all the homework.

Well remove the first two digits of the reference and add three 000. :)

Now, that I am able to share my pain, I feel that getting kicked in the nuts is the most beautiful thing in the world. ::love::
