Well, this watch was featured on hodinkee few days back. Yeah the asking price was quite phenomenal. Well considering the rarity ....

 

From a distance I appreciate the beauty of this one.

However, the shot at the centre of the dial (second last) shows an irregular surface contour, sort of like areas where corrosion is removed and painted over.

Am I being pedantic?

 

I assume people have seen this one for sale on Ebay. Some parts of the dial are extremely crude and scream redial, and other areas the fonts look pretty OK to me. I haven't really studied in detail, but just wanted to capture the images here. (I've adjusted the first two to make them lighter as the seller pics were very dark).

It doesn't help that the hands are a mess, the case correctors and pushers don't look right, not sure if the moonphase dial is replaced. Anyhow it doesn't exactly come off as untouched.

There's also this black dial from another thread, just so we have them all in one place...

 

The fonts look pretty good to me on the ebay watch, but there are some areas, like the running seconds sub dial, hash marks between 30 and 50 are really bad, not what I would expect from a factory dial. Tri Compax printing is very heavy.

Anyhow, I'm not making any determinations, haven't formed a definite opinion, just posting so we have it documented

Actually …. We’ve learned much since 2014. Overall avoid black dials. I don’t think dial 1 is repainted … it is however later than SN with a service moon.

 

you think that the last one is a redial?

 

Dunno anything about UG but the last one, whatever its correctness, looks appealing to me (the first one too obviously).

 

Might be jaded from all the black repaints we’ve seen, but the variation makes me question it.
