I know what you mean. My wife caught me behind an old Roadrunner a few days ago in a parking lot, smelling the unfiltered exhaust. Mmmmm, memories of my youth.
BTW, it was nitromethane, not nitrous...similar but different. Nitromethane is a liquid fuel power adder. Back when I was drag racing (great stories there too), I saw alot of damage from nitrous. A fuel company that made nitromethane for offshore powerboating, used to give me fuel for free in exchange for dyno data...they didn't have anyone using it for motorcyles except me. Fun Fun Fun. 225hp on a modest mix, 250hp on a spirited mix, and that's unblown. Just fuel and some other basic mods to accomodate. 205mph top speed by GPS. I learned a fun fact from that...tires melt at that speed. One of the reasons for the 186mph limit on most bikes. Tire technology couldn't keep up with horsepower. Had strips of rubber goo hanging off the fenders. Kept things to about 180 after that.
Been through 8 1/2 lives I think so I take it easy now. Although that Harley I mentioned? I put a blower on it.
